I posted this question a while back, someone replied and suggested using PowerToys for XP. I downloaded TweakUI and adjusted the Folder Customizations number from 450 to 700 but my folders are still reseting themselvs after a few hours. Doese anyone know how to keep the settings other than the "apply to all folders" option? If anyone isn't sure what i'm talking about I just want the folder to keep the icon settings and folder size. Any help would be great, I'm sick of my folders resting to the "list" icon view. Thanks

Click tools

Under advance settings is "remember each folder's view setting" checked?

I can't get mine to stay set either.. worse thing about is that the default setting is "icons". If I wanted to be running OSX I'd have bought an Apple! :frown:

Delete these two keys in the registry "BagsMRU" and "Bags".

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags

Increase the customizations to a much bigger number like 4000+

I found that I periodically have to delete those two registry keys BagsMRU and Bags and then reset my folders. The trick is to figure out how to turn off "folder sniffing". I don't know how to do that. If you don't create any New Folders and don't change the ones you access back and forth it will pretty much stay set.

Currently, there are only four folders that I have to have my way ...I've given up and adopted looking at all other folders the way Windows wants me to see them. I'll admit it ...I've been beaten into submission.

This worked for me:

By default, Windows XP will remember the view settings for the 400 most recently
used folders. After that, XP will begin overwriting the data of the oldest folder,
and its view setting will be lost. The information is stored in the registry by two
keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam

These keys can be modified to make XP remember more folder settings.

1) Open Windows Explorer and go to Tools--Folder Options--View--Advanced Settings. Ensure that "Remember each folder's view settings" is checked.
2) Open Regedit and go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell. Right-click on "Shell", then follow to New--Key--DWORD Value. Name this item "BagMRU Size" (without quotation marks, but with a space between BagMRU and Size). Double-click BagMRU Size, give it a Decimal value of 5000, then click OK.
3) Now go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam. Create another BagMRU Size DWORD Value for "ShellNoRoam". Again, give it a Decimal value of 5000, then click
OK.
4) You will have two "BagMRU Size" values equal to 0x00001388 (5000).
5) Close the registry and reboot.

Windows XP will now remember 5000 folder view settings instead of 400.

Thanks to Fred Nava of the Windows Shell Test Team!

If you have installed SP2, however, these settings will already be there; MS finally took care of the problem.

How pretentious! Why don't you search the Support HOSE MyComputer site you're trying to hawk and post the answer here instead of taking us for fools and leading us into damnation?

I smell a rat.

Just curious, but why re-invent the wheel? Why not use "apply to al folders"? That what it's there for.

5000 seems pretty low tho. Is there a way to increase the number to at least 100K something? There are 500K files on my POS and not much less folders.

What's the point how many? It doesn't work with no matter how many ...it fails to hold the settings ....

Really? I don't think so. After I edited the registry to remember up to 5K sizes, now I never see strangely shaped windows. Only on a very rare occasion, he-he. We need to up the number for it to work smooth!
