There are some early builds that cannot be updated, you may need to get the latest iso and work from that

The OP is on a non-current version of Windows 10 (I assume he means 1511 so therefore he's two major updates behind - 1607 and 1703); I would strongly suggest having a machine in good working order with the latest (released to Windows Update) updates rather than steering him down a path of development-status operating systems.

OP, if you fire up the Settings app (there's a little cog on the Start menu), then go into 'Update & Security', then click on 'check for updates', what result do you get?

I would suggest that you wait to the soon to be released (in the coming few weeks) of the Fall Win 10 Creator.

When it released log to MS site look for the ISO of the New Release make a Bootable DVD/Flash Drive and upgrade.

Switching to new Release is an Upgrade and not an Update.

The Upgrade has an option to maintain Apps and files of the current installation.

I think that Win 10 1155 is Not Updated anymore.

Windows 10 uses an online MS server to determine if you are a registered activated user on your device. So if this is an activated version of windows 10. All you need to do is download the media creation tool and install the latest version of windows 10. It will auto activate on your hardware when you go online. You can no longer upgrade version 1511. You need to install the newest version. Backup all your files to a external drive first.
