Does anyone know how to get the "Security Tab" in WinXP?
Any help is appreciated.

For some reason, all my folders get automatically set to "read-only" even after i unset them. I think this has to do with security issues so that's why i need to access the security tab.

Go to folder options in the control panel, view, all the way at the bottom uncheck the box next to use simple file sharing. That should give you the security tab when you right click on a folder or file.

i went to control panel, folder options, but i don't see a box for simple file sharing.

is this because i am using winxp home?
i am pretty sure i am using the NTFS on my hard drive and not fat32

it is under the 'view' tab of folder options.. then go all the way down to the bottom of the list.. you will see it there.

this is so frustrating i can't see it anywhere listed in control panels -> folder options -> advanced settings

it is not in the advanced settings. but just to be sure i had two of my friends look at my pc they couldn't find it either.
winXP is driving me crazy.
does anyone have any suggestions on why i don't have a simple file sharing listed under advanced settings?

skho.. you go to the control panel. then double click on the 'folder options' icon. that will bring up the a box, with several tabs (the tabs on top of the box). you click on the 'view' tab. then page down to the bottom of the list of options, where there are check boxes next to each option. the last on in the list (the one at the bottom) is 'use simple file sharing'. check the box next to that.. and click 'ok', then 'ok'. then launch explorer, and right click on any folder or file, you should then see the 'security' tab. but remember, to have all this work, you have to have WinXP pro, and have the drive where the file or folders are located, must be formated with NTFS, not FAT16 or FAT32. there is no security options for anything other then a NTFS formated drive.

yeah i kind of suspected the problem.
thanks stingray but check out my previous posts...i was thinking that winXP Home doesn't have it.

so there is no security tab for winXP Home?
isn't it still formatted with NTFS though?
