How to get SETI beta client?

I was browsing the HardwareCentral Team SETI page and found this in their forum:

<< "The new 2.7 beta is incredible.
I'm clocking 3.5-4.5 hr work units, down from 5.75 hr workunits with 2.4.
And the 2.7 is the graphical version.
It's very susceptible to variances, tho. WU ranges are from 3.5 to 6.5 hrs."

Here's a link to what I'm talking about... http://discussions.hardwarecentral.com/Forum14/HTML/000568.html

This would be great especially for those of us with multiple systems (herds). Saving an hour or two on a bunch machines would mean a large difference in output! How can we get it?

Hey... I'm the one who posted that on HWC.

There was a beta invite on the alt.sci.seti newsgroup last week or so for a 2.66 beta, which quite simply Sucked. As in ~26 hr work units. They corrected it and sent out a corrected 2.7 version to the 2.66 testers.

Unfortunately, they're not accepting new testers as of yet.

Only available to beta testers? Ah, that sucks. Hmmm... Are they strictly keeping track of them or are users just reporting info back? If not, what if 2.7 somehow "found" it's way to a newsgroup? Or if it somehow got Emailed to a few of us from an anonymous account? That would be cool! :)

I'm pretty sure they're tracking it... you need a password to access the page and it only works once, so even the testers can only download once.

I'll probably get leaked eventually, but not by me ;-)

Our very own MisterM is a registered Beta tester ,you could run the new client for him ;) ,I'm sure he'd love that :)
I ran the v2.66 for him & it sucked big time ,didn't you see my thread about it? (more info on v3b).BTW I ran it for him so as not to mess around with their Beta group :)
I don't know if he has v2.7 yet

If they're tracking it then it's probably not worth the chance of screwing up their program. I'd be interested in participating in future betas. Could you post a message here about any future betas?

Thanks!

I'll slap the 2.7 client on one of my machines for MisterM. I've got a P3/500 here (NT4 BDC) that does nothing but run SETI all day. I'm currently using the CL client on it and it does WU's in the 6.25-6.5 hour range.

Of course when the client is officially released I'll have to switch back to my own username. :p

Lemme know MisterM!

If MisterM hasn't responded by tommorow I'll send you v2.7 & his E-mail address ;)
(I got v2.7 from another forum who aren't being so careful about who is running it! )

MisterM: You're welcome! According to SetiQ this box should finish this WU in about 5hr 11min. Over 4 WU/day out of a single P3/550 box is nice! Any idea when this will be release for us to all use "legally"? I've got about 15-16 more clients I want to load this bad boy on!

I got 2.7 from ars, been running it on my p200mmx. First wu was 46hrs 15 mins, but it was loaded with both pulses and triplets. This second one looks like it's gonna be about 30hrs. 2.4 was 24 to 26 hrs.

heres a link to the file
http://kirra.acool.net/seti/setiathome_win_2_70.exe

I'm also a beta tester, but this does not stop you using the beta software. S@H aren't doing any non beta tester blocking of results..

D
PS - Ass1 ya git.. :) Don't expect no more beers from this forgotten registered Beta tester!!!!

ROBOR -> There was no 2.70 for the Mac, 2.66 on the Mac did not have the same bug as Windows, so they didn't make a 2.70. Heres a link for 2.66 for the Mac.... http://kirra.acool.net/seti/setiathome_mac_2_66.hqx

Ok, senior SETI's, is the recommendation that we switch from 2.4 CLI to the new 2.7 GUI beta? Or should the team continue to run 2.4 for a while?

Sorry mate ,but you already do a load of WU's/day ;) don't be greedy:p:) hehe

Well ,officially we should stick with CLi v2.4 or GUI v2.04 until v3 is released. However many non beta testers are now running v2.7 & haven't had any probs yet.
It's kinda up to you ;) ,I'm still with CLi v2.4 at the moment
