How to get rid of the paytime.exe virus

i got the virus and avg isn't cleaning it and thats the only antivirus program i have, the virus won't even let me open internet explorer. Anyone have the steps to manually getting rid of it?

Rapid Fire, you are on the Internet right now. Does the computer you're using now have a CD burner, or do you have a thumbdrive/USB drive that you could use to move a scanner utility to the infected computer with?

If so, right-click this link and Save Target, it's a text file. Get the scanner that the text file mentions and put it on CD or on USB drive. Unzip it onto the infected computer as directed, reboot into Safe Mode, disable System Restore, and run the scanner using the command that the text file tells you.

Edit: while you're at it, also grab Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta and a 30-day trialware of Webroot Spysweeper, links on this page to those downloads. Get WinsockFix as well.

and i notice that in that text file mechBgon, that it says it could be dangerous if i dont back everything up. That doesnt sound too safe

All software installs recommend the same thing. Don't be a wuss, go for it. Oh and Trend Micro HouseCall works VERY well.

Right click on "My Computer" select "Properties" from the contextual menu.
Click on the tab "System Restore".
Check the box that says, "Turn off System Resotre on all drives".
