However, to stop stretch marks from occurring when you exercise, take Zinc. The reason you have stretch marks when you exercise is because your body is depleted of Zinc. This is a common problem for gymnasts. That's why their growth is stunted.
WTF? Another urban myth being forwarded. Thank you, Doctor.
Uh, yeah, it's not a myth. I have already provided one link. I'll provide even more links to research on government websites. I'll add the links when I get them. They're scientific researches.

Where in that article does it state stretch marks are due to low zinc levels? And the reason why people on Prednisone gets stretchmarks, is because of the dramatic weight gain from the medication itself.

I've got them on my legs (in a place that very few people see), and they've been there for a while, and they don't show any signs of going away. I think I'm stuck with them.

Uhmmm, if your theory were true, I wouldn't have had stretch marks all over my butt being a super skinny girl. Furthermore, I wouldn't have had a few more stretch marks when on Prednisone in spite of adding negligible weight (<1 Lb). Zinc has been shown scientifically to play a huge role in growth. Dwarfism has been linked to Zinc. In fact, it was discovered among Iranians whose staples were low in Zinc and growth stunt was a common defect.

Futhermore, if you look at many of your skin products and the ingredients contained, you'll find Zinc listed as main active ingredient. You know why? Because Zinc has everything to do with your skin too. It's also responsible for transporting vitamin A from the liver. And vitamin A plays a significant role in skin.

Here's a link to a research on gymnasts, growth stunt and Zinc: "Serum zinc in highly trained adolescent gymnasts". There are many more researches, but this should do.

For the stretch marks, although the article linked earlier does not talk about it, it does establish a depletion of Zinc in athletes. All that is needed therefore is for me to provide a link to Zinc and stretch marks. I am looking that up now.

Are you sure it's not cellulite? If it's on the butt, that's probably what it is... here's a pic of Britney Spears with cellulite on her butt: http://www.popculturejunkies.com/mt/archives/britney_spears_has_cellulite.php

Again, this has nothing to do with stretch marks. I never said Zinc wasn't important or couldn't cause problems.

You may find zinc in acne products as well. Infact, for years zinc was used to treat acne. So it may have benefits for the skin, but that doesn't mean low levels of zinc CAUSES stretch marks.

Again, absolutely nothing about zinc and stretch marks.

Yes, that is what's needed.

Uh, yeah, thanks for the suggestion, but I know the difference between cellulites and stretch marks. In fact, my relative has both, but I have just the stretch marks.

Here's a link to article calling into question the claim that glucose intolerance and adrenal cortical hyperactivity are responsible for stretch marks: "Striae gravidarum. Folklore and fact".

Zinc is also linked to weight gain. If Prednisone causes an increase in weight and the body is depleted of Zinc, then it makes sense that there would be an abnormal collagen formation when the skin is stretching. Here you go with Zinc interaction with Prednisone and other drugs: Zinc and Prednisone Interaction plus Increased Urinary Excretion for Those on Prednisone.

Unfortunately, I don't have a subscription to the following site, but the abstract shows a relationship between zinc-deficiency and striae: Zinc and Striae (first link). "Zinc deficiency-related

You can apply stretch mark creams that will reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

I've never been pregnant, so I don't have any, but if you are young, don't smoke, and are well-hydrated, you have a better chance of them fading. Otherwise, it's genetics.

guess i have bad genetics. I was young, didn't smoke, and well hydrated (15 at the time of the growth spurt) and the stretch marks are still the same today.
