How to get rid of Samsung's keyboard and use another keyboard software?

My galaxy core won't let me use other keyboard programs, the Samsung keyboard is automatically set as default and I can't remove it. If I download another program and choose that one instead, the Samsung will still show up as selected (there will be 2 keyboards selected). When I try to type on facebook or whatever, nothing shows up (the cellphone becomes slow as hell too)
Unfortunately, there is no android update to my phone (its a special edition of the galaxy core) so I can't get out of the Samsung jail. What can I do?

Are you sure you have activated the keyboard from the settings and then set it as default?

Try installing Swiftkey from the Play Store, run the app from your app drawer, and follow the instructions exactly.

Installing the Google Keyboard also will walk you through activating and setting it as the default.
