I have a few years old Sony XBR 34" widescreen CRT HDTV, the thing is a massive beast I think it weighs 180lbs or so. Anyways, the picture quality is outstanding, I would say the best CRT HDTV picture quality, actually I would say better than some LCDs by far. But somehow, no matter how hard I try I can't get rid of the thing. I've put it in the paper, many various websites. I really need to move to another place and I don't just wanna chunk this great tv, I figure it would be worth something to someone. I have my eye on a 32" widescreen sharp aqous with 1080p but I know I have to get rid of mine to get it. Anyone got a good idea on how to get rid of this thing?

I'm sure someone would by it on the internet if I could actually ship it, not even sure how thats possible, freight maybe?

Thats what I did, craigslist and I said just that, no one would bite, I even offered my stand free which holds the tv very nicely.

If worse comes to worse, there's always Freecycle. I can guarantee someone would be willing to come get it out of your house.

I know it's worth something though, there's still lots of people I know still on regular standard tv's right now and would love to see HDTV. Sure it maybe big and not easily moveable but I know lots of people who have owned the same tv for several years in the same spot of the same room and are fine with that. I have a friend I play with on Xbox Live that has one and is happy with it.

Yeap, it's going to be hard to sell it at price you want for it. I'm having trouble getting rid of good 17" crt monitors for free.

It's still got a following. Did you try any AV/Home theater forums? What price are you asking?

Why do you want to downgrade to that LCD? It's smaller and will likely have a worse picture. It's too small to benefit from 1080p anyway. I could understand if you were upgrading to 46" - 60" but I don't see the point of getting a 32" LCD replacement.

Yeah I'm a regular poster to AVS forums. Not really "wanting" to get rid of it, I just have to move out of my house and I really don't work out enough to be lifting a 180lb tv up 3 floors. Problem with the forums is everyone wants you to ship the item and I really don't know how to ship an item this big and heavy. I just bought it from Circuit City maybe a year and a half ago and got them to deliver it, there was 2 guys on it and even they said it was heavy.

How much are you asking for it? Circuit City's selling that model for 399 bucks. I almost bought one. You shouldn't be asking more than 200 for it.

See I know, but most people that know what their buying wouldn't get that model, the one on sale is the XBR 970 which is supposed to have the super fine picture tube however according to AVS forums it doesn't and the image quality is definately noticeable compared to the model previous. Which is the model I have the XBR 960, I actually had a choice of both models and I chose this one over that one, any intelligent person should. And 200 bucks is just rediculous for this model, it's so incredibly hard to find. I would think anyone who would be looking for a CRT HDTV would want the 960, it was simply the best model. I actually only had mine going for 400 and thats incredibly cheap I paid 999 and got the CC warranty on it a year and a half ago.

What about donating it to a local charity? Take the tax writeoff at the retail value, and help out someone at the same time. There's alot of charities that will come and pick stuff up.

We donated our old 32" XBR to a local charity. They were very appreciative for the donation, and sent out two people to haul it away for us. :)

I left my bigass 150 pounds TV at my parent's place. Don't you have a friend or family to give it away to? You won't make much from selling if you have to pay for the shipping cost too

Um...OK. The people who picked it up weren't homeless, they were volunteers for the charity (a local children's home).

your asking price is way too high for a used piece of electronics. I don't think you would be able to sell it for anything more than 250$.
