How to get rid of Norton Antivirus on my mac, Help

Every time my gf starts up her mac, she is plagued with a pop up message saying

Norton Antivirus Error
Norton Antivirus Autoprotect could not continue. Please reinstall and restart.

How do I get rid of this junk? I took Norton off a long time ago.
 
Sigh... installing Norton Antivirus on OS X... the thing is generally not recommended for Windows, where AV needed/required, why on earth would someone think it was a good idea on OS X where it is not required/needed (for now, don't want to get into this discussion).

Not bashing you or your girlfriend gizbug, just sort of muttering/ranting.
