How to get rid of Google Update?

When you install any program made by Google such as Chrome, it installs a service called Google Update. When you uninstall the programs, they leave the Google Update service behind and leave it set to run with your computer whenever you turn it on. All I can do is disable it from starting up but I would like to get rid of it. How would I go about doing that?

I uninstalled Google Chrome, which is what it came with. It didn't leave with it. I have looked for it to manually delete it and couldn't find it, so I posted it here. Google says that it can be uninstalled from start menu or from add/remove programs, but it's not there. I even checked in the registry where msconfig says it is and it's not there. Is it actually gone but msconfig doesn't know that or is it hidden?

What's the name of the process? I have Chrome installed here and I don't see anything like Google Update running or listed in add/remove programs.

Ok I see it now in msconfig. Here's some instructions I found for removing it:

Click the Start menu on your computer taskbar.
Select Run.
Enter cmd to open a command prompt.
Type cd C:\Program Files\Google\Google Updater to change directories.
Type GoogleUpdater.exe -uninstall to uninstall.
Restart your computer after you uninstall.

However on my system it's located here:
C:\users\<username>\appdata\local\google\update\googleupdate.exe

Good luck.

Tried all of these. Command Prompt says the file can't be found. Can't find the file in the task scheduler either. I'm pretty sure the program is actually gone, but msconfig still says it is there.

It's just gonna be back again next time you install some Google software. Do you really think you can resist the Google?
