Hey guys!
I got a really nice cheap motherboard from Overstock (has Creative audio and 8MB AGP Rage 128(!) for $34), but the Gateway logo bothers the hell out of me. Does anyone know how to get rid of it? Also, if you know how I could put my own logo up there would be appreciated. I heard a while ago that you have to flash the BIOS to do it, but how I don't remember anymore. LMK if you have any clue.

Don't know about this bios exactly. IBM has a setup program that will let you do this. Some bios's have a "feature" to turn them off. I suggest you look at the MB and get the number off it and search the gateway site. you might also be able to ask the bios maker.

It's the splash screen programmed into the BIOS. There are various utilities out there that will let you change it to something else.

The Intel motherboard uses an Intel/AMI BIOS, which is stored in flash memory and may be upgraded using a disk-based program.

The BIOS brand you get on your Intel motherboard always depends....

For example, the Intel SE440BX board used in a Dell PII400 I have has a Dell/Phoenix BIOS. You can't completely get rid of the Dell logo in the BIOS, but you can eliminate the big splash screen (allowing you to see what happens during the POST) by turning on the "show boot diagnostics" feature in the BIOS setup.

All gateway motherboards are custom made for gateway by an outfit called Jallil electronics Or something like that.

There use to be several sites around that had routines and info for creating/changing logo's in BIOS. Copyright issues caused the disappearance of most of them. Try Wim's BIOS page at www.ping.be/bios/

Gateway sources motherboards from Intel (most current PIII), MSI (AMD Athlon), and an OEM motherboard manufacturer called Jabil, who makes boards to Intel specs.

LukFilm, I've tried to do this with the board I got for my brother (Intel WS440BX). I downloaded some utility that changes .bmp to some .bin file and flashed the "OEM customizable" addresses of the BIOS. But it didn't work for me.

If you get it to work, please let me know how you did it.

Thanks!
