I am making my new system and it boots ok.

Now after the boot up process of course it boot manager will look for an OS. Nothing to be suprised about. because no OS is installed on my hard drive the computer just says not boot OS found.

But this 30GB 7200RPM hard drive(HD-A) i have was my 2nd hard driver that i had from my older system.
On which there was a another 20GB 7200 RPM hard drive(HD-B) that had the Win ME and Win 2000 on Fat 32 OS. So basically i had only information on HD-A.

I partitioned HD-A with partition magic 6.0 to 3 equal partitions which on my older machine had the drive letters F,G,H respectively. I knew when i build the new system with only HD-A everything will defult to C,D,F. which it did. I reformatted C: and started to install Win ME. when it setup came up it said the i cannot install Win ME on a HTFS or Win NT partition.
which i did not.

So what i figured out throught FDISK is that it is only being recongnised as one extended DOS partition. So i when to delete the Extended DOS partition in fdisk. it said not exact but "cannot delete extended DOS partition with logical drives still present". So i went to delete logical drives with fdisk and it says "no logical drives found on partition"

you see what i am getting at. i cannot make a primary partition because i cannot delete a partition and make another drive and i cannot delete one because logical drives are still present.

I dont know what to do in this situation.

Please help me with this problem, is i dont know how to get rid of the Extended DOS partition and make it 2 logical partition

Thanks evertone )

There is a utility available at www.download.com called "delpart". It will do what you need. But, if you already have PartitionMagic, it should be able to handle this situation as well.

seems that delpart.exe won't help as you have fat32 not NTFS

here's the readme for it
DELPART is a DOS based utility that will remove NTFS partitions from hard drives. FDISK is unable to remove some types of NTFS partitions. DELPART can wipe clean a hard drive, then you can use FDISK to create partitions normally.

I just had this problem the other day. I did not really fix it, but worked around it. I had an NT computer with NTFS partitions. I had to re-format and install Win98. When I fdisked, it said the same thing as yours. I finally booted with a Windows NT Cd and formatted the drive into two partitions. Of course, I could not do one partition because of the 8.3 gig limit. This isn't really a fix, but maybe it will help.
