How to get out of jury duty?

I have a subpoena that says that I must show up for a "hearing" because I missed jury duty when I was called last time - it was my 21st b-day and I flaked out.. Anyway, I'm wondering what's going to happen when I show up and, if they say I have to do jury duty, how do I get out of it? I have a major paper due on thursday (the meeting is on wenesday) and my finals week starts in a few days.. I'm over stressed, over worked, and jury duty doesn't help!

Just show up and tell them during the interview that you are a radical, right-wing, conservative, pro-life, Christian, and they'll dump you as fast as they can!

I got out of mine by 'being a smartass' to the interviewing attourneys at the trail ...

It still took almost all day to kick me out of the jury selection thou.

I also was let go ffom a note from my Employers attourney ... stating I was unable to attend.

when i was called, i had to wait in the lounge for like 3+ hours before they called my group to a case....
after my group entered the courtroom, i waited outside for like 10 minutes and waited for someone to exit the courtroom and i followed them and told the front people that i was dismissed as well, and they just scanned my badge and let me go... i even made 35 cents for my time and mileage!

As a student, you are exempt from jury duty. There should have been a way to let them know when you got the original summons. Call the court house, or wherever, and tell them that you are a student. That should be the end of it. They may make it tough on you since you skipped out without notifying them that you are a student. Good luck. You just might need it.

I think some here are missing the fact that the posted skipped out on the original summons. He is now being called before the judge to explain why. Around here, they started issuing citations when people skipped jury duty. Too many people think it's optional, but you are breaking the law if you skip out.

Actually last time I was on jury duty was rather fun. Would have been a good prelude to a party, and at the same time celebrating your 21st with some serious responsibility.

Don't try to get out of jury duty.

That's lame. I want to get out of it because I work. If state run brain washing is good enough to get out, working for the government should get me out too.

Or you can tell them that you are a student. Usually they won't bother students. I got called for jury duty twice back home in Wichita, once when I was in Lawrence at KU and once when I was here in South Bend, IN. Both times my dad told them I was up at school, and they moved on down the list.

I registered to vote up here in South Bend, and I got a letter for jury duty. I returned it and indicated that I am a student. They haven't been back in touch.

A sure way of dodging jury duty is saying "If a person is on trial, I think it is likely that they are guilty." You'll get tossed. I don't recommend doing this. I recommend stepping up and doing your civic duty.

Say this "I can tell a man is guilty just by looking at him. See that man over there, he musta killed a man cause he sure looks guilty." Boom, no way in hell they let you in the court room.

Good try, but I don't think Uncle Sam would buy it.

that was very idiotic of you to "flake out." You should have told them instead that you are a student and they would have let it go

Wait, let me get this straight. You pay the state 1500 bucks to get out of jury duty? That's absolutely nuts.

I would probably go because I think it would be fun to do but if you really want to get out of it...

Tell them that you hate all non-(your race here) people. This works especially well if the person interviewing you isn't of your race and you desginate all responses to somebody that is.

I heard being racist works. Claim that you are prejudiced to all people.

Or do the complete opposite. Claim all people are innocent and crime is a hoax.

Then again, I've never had to face a judge to explain myself.

going to jury duty was one of the ways that i started to give back to the community, imagine if everybody had the same mentality.
