Yeah, ok, so i realize this MAY not be the best place to figure this out, but you guys are gonna have to try your best :)

Anyway, I spend too much time on here. I don't want to leave altogether, but it'd be nice if I could concentrate on my homework for an hour or two without being forced to come look at the forums every 15 minutes (I'm addicted). Also, my productivity goes way down at work while I'm on here.

Any suggestions? how do I make studying more important than the forums? I really need to keep this habit in check, it's affecting my grades, and I'm transferring at the end of the semester.

Go to the bathroom, get a hair dryer out. Cut the cord off. Take the cord to your computer, strip the wires back to bare metal 1 inch on the two conductors. Attach the wires to the aluminum overlay you have made for your keyboard. Plug it in. Now when you try to type, you will get a nice shock, reminding you to do your homework.

Hey, at least you're not asking how to get OFF on the internet.

1) If you have broadband get rid of it.
2) Use a free ISP (netzero)
3) Learn some self control

This is YOUR problem. You have to work up the self-control to get your priorities right. Try a little experiment - don't come here for a whole day. Then when you come back, you'll see that you didn't miss anything. Everything that was posted while you were gone is still here!

How do you make studying more important than the forums? You can't make it more important - is IS more important! You already know this. If your schoolwork is in serious trouble because of the Internet, you better get the hell off. Take appropriate action, and good luck.

Kranky has a valid point. If you have to be on the computer to do your work, then perhaps you should find a way to do the work instead of browsing the forums. If you simply cannot control yourself, ask a mod to ban you. If you don't need the Internet to do your coding, then work on a computer with no net access.

Maybe he just has no patience for people who are unable exert some self control.

;)

And it's easy enough to ban yourself, just change your e-mail address to something random (abc@cba.com). Then clear your cache & cookies, & you're gone.

Actually, that was a sincere post. I wasn't flaming you at all.

I simply meant that no "tricks" that people post here are going to help you. Only you can do that. And indeed you won't miss anything by checking in here less often. It would be a shame to have your grades suffer because of a lack of self-discipline.
