How to get my mouse's additional functions to work?

I've got an IBM Thinkpad 600 that I use all the time, and an IBM Scrollpoint Pro USB mouse that I would like to have work at full capacity. It has a wheel, middle click, and a third button which by default is 'back' in browser window in XP. However, when I connect it to my Windows 2000 Pro laptop, it doesn't want to do this- when I roll the scrollwheel, it actually moves the cursor up and down instead of scrolling the content. The third button does nothing. I can't seem to find anything on the IBM website as far as a drivers go, and nothing pertinent in the control panel. Can anyone think of what might be the problem? It's a USB mouse, I get the same activity using a USB->PS/2 adapter as well.

Note to anyone trying to use a USB->PS/2 adapter with the drivers in the top link- Don't. It will remove mouse functionality completely.

Now, anyone know how to change options such as scroll speed? Control panel looks the same.
