How to get mirrorlink working?

My headunit supports it as does my s6, but I can't find directions anywhere (some reference a play store app named "drive link" that no longer exists). My head unit works instantly with carplay (plug in iphone cable, boom - it works), but I can't for the life of me figure it out on the galaxy s6 edge.

The application that was used to mirror is Pioneer AppRadio ?

That's my problem - I can't find a mirroring app, "Drive Link" was mentioned before but now it doesn't exist on the s6 (it's not lollipop compatible). Carplay is so much easier!

What happens when you plug in your s6 to your head unit? I have a settings option to connect via USB for mirrorlink on my note 4, maybe try connecting your phone to the head unit via USB then looking at the mirrorlink menu? I noticed I have 0 mirrorlink compatible apps as well (not sure what apps are personally) so maybe you need a few of those tog et it to come up.

As for it being as easy as carplay, if you want something that's similar you're probably going to have to get a new head unit with androidauto, mirrorlink is not the equivalent of carplay for android.

Ok, hooked up to head unit, turned mirrorlink on - head unit sees that the phone is connected and MIRRORLINK is lit up (plus pandora, etc.). When I return to the main menu and chose APPS (smartphone), the option says NO COMPATIBLE DEVICES DETECTED.

Also, I'm not getting a single app as "mirrorlink compatible," not even maps.

Is this working on your device?:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.scm&hl=en

L.E: I've just saw that it requires Android 4.3 to work :(.

However I've made a search for some mirror link apps on Play store and here is what I have found: https://play.google.com/store/search?q=mirror%20link&c=apps&hl=en but this seems to be from Google, compatible with Android 5.0.
I've looked over on the car headunit specs and it seems that they have release a firmware upgrade for your version. Maybe you have to perform an update to headunit firmware?

Also there are some apps on the headunit page that might do the mirror link work: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/GPS-Navigation/AVIC-5000NEX in the Apps tab.

In this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moG_l8s4t_0 this guy makes his Honda work with his S6 via Mirror Link and he is able to use Sygic Navigation. Take a look at the video and see if there are some certain steps that you have missed when you have to connect via mirror link.

In the end maybe the best option would be to contact the guys from Pioneer and ask them if there is a problem with the firmware of the headunit or is a problem related to the Galaxy S6 firmware and apps. (is your galaxy s6 having the latest firmware updates?)

I've tried literally everything - mirrorlink is detected but no compatible apps are shown, and android drive does not function.

Fuck it, the galaxy s6 is an awful phone - i've given it enough time, it's going back

It's sad that a faulty feature can make a user to return his device :).

Anyway I think that mirrorlink is at beginning so it will take a while until it will became main stream.

What device are you going to buy ?

I was beating my head on this one, too. I have a Galaxy S6 and a 4100NEX. You will need to be sure you are using the USB2 port, as USB1 is aimed at firmware updates and for iPhone use. You'll also need to go into Smartphone setup on the head unit and set it to Other, USB2 and MirrorLink (it's in the manual). Finally on the phone you'd need to go into settinngs and look for "More Connection Settings" -> MirrorLink, but you probably won't be able to do anything there yet, just keep that screen handy.

Finally connect the USB cable to your running head unit and you should then be able to finally switch the toggle for "Connect to Vehicle via USB" and finally you'll get a connection with the unit, which will set only a mirrorlink screen on your phone and your head unit will probably say something about waiting while it reads the phone for apps or something. In any case the only app it showed for me was one called "Phone", which didn't even work. I did download Sygic Car Navigation from the Play Store, however, and apparently that is also a compatible MirrorLink app that will work with the NEX series. I'm not too sure about any other apps that might be available, however. I was REALLY hoping I could use this to run Waze, but apparently that's a no-go. You could try searching for MirrorLink (no space) on the Play Store and seeing what other apps show up that MIGHT work and MIGHT be useful to you. So far nothing is floating my boat in that department, though, so really I think the better mode to use right now is Android Auto. Not many more apps to play with there (really just Google Maps, Google Music, iHeart Radio some ability to text via voice and such) but at least it seems to work well enough. We just need a lot more apps available on it to make it more useful.

Wow, thanks for the informative post samsung employee :) No, it really is very helpful. The problem is that my usb port is behind the head unit, and the only extension drilled out to the glove compartment was usb 1. This requirement was not listed anywhere, at all... argh! Instead of ripping the head unit out I'm just going to return the phone. carplay works on my wife's iphone perfectly, i plug it in and carplay works. Mirrorlink kinda is a handful, and the phone has some annoying quirks anyways.

thanks!

LOL! Hardly a Samsung employee, in fact this is my first Samsung phone. I do prefer Android over iOS, though. I did realize enough when I had them install the head unit that I wanted them to give me every jack that was on the unit out into the car somewhere, though. It wasn't until I got deep into the Pioneer manual that I found out there was a difference between using USB1 and USB2. I'm definitely disappointed in MirrorLink, though. Android Auto works well for what things are available on it, though, much like CarPlay but probably with a few less apps right now. I'd still prefer a way to really just run apps straight off of the phone rather than having to deal with the garbage "safety" layers the manufacturers have put into these things that effectively prevent that. Very, very annoying. In further reading it almost sounds like the AppRadio mode would give me a bit more of what I'm looking for but the S6 doesn't seem to run that, apparently you'd need an S5 which still had MHL in it.

In all the methods of making these connections compared to the almost misleading advertising about how great all this stuff is and what apps work with it has been a really annoying process. But I figured I might as well post what I've been able to figure out someplace since the details seemed so hard to find out there in the wilds of the 'net for just anyone who happens to come across this post by searching (like I did.)

Hi Guys,

there is a page about MirrorLink connectivity to the car provided by Sygic Car Navigation. You can find more information about technology, compatibility and how MirrorLink works with navigation app.

You will find the information here: http://mirrorlink-navigation.com/

Thanks for the follow up guys - I long gave up and just went with an iphone. I find carplay a little limiting (come on, get waze on there) but it doesn't get easier, plug and play.

Hi All. I'm in the market for a new dual din deck with mirrorlink and or Android Auto. I'm a bit unclear what the difference is. Basically I'd like to plug in my S7 Edge (which has mirrorlink and Android Auto both I believe) and see the phones screen and/or apps on the stereo screen especially for GPS navigation, aka Google Maps. what do you recommend for this? Is one better than the other? I know via bluetooth I can stream audio, operate hands free etc so that's not an issue as any newer deck with provide that, but I'm not sure as whether r nt to go mirrorlink or android auto. Or are they both the same kinda? Can anyone shed a bit of light on it? I've googled and it seems like some decks have both but I could be and probably am mistaken...the biggest thing I'd like is Google maps and to see my apps on the screen and use them while not driving or course, and to use hands free to send texts or speak destinations into maps etc. Any help would greatly be appreciated. I'm a geek at heart and work in IT, I just don't know much about the decks and would like to keep costs down as much as possible. I already have speakers and an amp as well as subwoofer installed but my deck fried I think so I'm only needing the main deck and would like one that's dual din for the nice display and could care less if it had DVD. My Last deck was a dual din with DVD but I rarely used it and most decks also come with usb ports so I could just put movies on a thumbdrive for use when not driving etc.

Thanks for the help. MUCH appreciated. Help a noob to this out please. I'll but you a cookie ;-)

Thank You
Lane
