How to get into Barbie's Bios

There's got to be somebody else bought this barbie pc from hot deals thread. i wish i hadnt bought this.
Does any body know how to get into the bios of this pc? seems like you can't do anything with that usb keyboard before dos is loaded
any help would be appreciated

does it have a standard keyboard port? try using that instead of a USB keyboard to get into BIOS at POST.

As suggested, try a standard keyboard and then try the standard keys after post:

del
ctrl-s
F10

....

...or maybe the 'pink corvette with BIOS update' accessory

Patriot (the manufacturer) went bankrupt and their website is gone. Those computers used the Intel FlexATX form factor motherboards. You might try Intel support for the information. I found this about it.

According to the blurb at Intel:

"Some FlexATX desktop boards have eliminated legacy connectors including PS/2, MIDI/game port, serial and parallel ports"

If there's no standard keyboard connector (is there Keltron?) this could be tricky.

Also we determined that the Barbie PC uses the Intel 810 chipset, so you might want to get those drivers from Intel -- they might help.

If you're waiting for someone with experience with a Barbie PC you might be waiting a long time. We've seen alot of AMD vs Intel threads. But I don't recall ever seeing a Barbie vs Hot Wheels thread.

Because it is an intel board, you'll need to move a jumper on the board to access the BIOS.

My Reccomendation:

Crack it open. Find the model number of the board. If you cant easily find it, try under any stickers on the mobo.

Get the manual from the intel site. It will list the jumper setting needed to access the BIOS.

If you cant find that, check the screening on the board. It will likely say 'bios' or 'setup' or somesuch.

Keltron-----------the forms are full of people who will give tons of advice on subjects they have no personal experience with. Be careful--don't spend $$ on their advice. Take their information, do more research, then you decide. RRRRR.

Keltron, since you ask for help and then act like such an insufferable jerk when people offer it perhaps you should stick to simpler hardware that you can operate all on your own. All you'll need to do to work this Barbie Karaoke machine is insert the batteries, attach the microphone, pop in your favorite N'Sync or Backstreet Boys cassette and Sing-a-Long with Cool echo sound effects. Or maybe you're really not a jerk but just in a bad mood because you didn't get that manicure you wanted. But I guess it's your lucky day because with these instructions from Barbies website you can learn how you can do it on your own:

Well Sleater, there WAS a very big Barbie PC thread in the Hot Deals forum ($99) just add a hardrive, which I jumped on and put together for my daughter, after some tweaking and memory upgrade, she has a sweet little PC. Some of the folks are modding them for lan PC.

All the guy asked for was specific instructions for a specific task, you gave him neither and insulted him as well. Looks like you're the a$$ to me.

Actually, I seconded the suggestion to try a standard keyboard in case there was a problem with USB. I also suggested trying 'del', 'F10', and 'ctrl-s' as possible keys for entering the BIOS. This also constituted a bump as he had not recieved a response since the previous day. Considering that you, the only other person I've seen with a Barbie PC, came to this thread 3 days after it orgininated I will suggest to you that you may never have seen this thread had people not TRIED to help.

Nonetheless, he rudely dismissed the people who tried to help him to that point.

Subsequently, I suggested that he try the Intel 810 chipset drivers in the event that his problem is USB related. Another Bump.

Then you told him F2

He then thanked me for 'no help'.

He's an ingrate. Ultimately you provided him the solution, which he has not thanked you for -- or even acknowledged to have recieved.

Looks to me like his "still waiting for somebody who acutully has experience with barbie pc" pissed you off because your generic help wasn't what he was looking for. I 'm guessing he tried all the standard bios access keystrokes which is why he was asking how to specifically access the barbie pc bios setup.

You say he was rude, I say he was being "to the point", actually he thanked the folks giving him suggestions without being condescending, or did you miss that part.

1. You've never "seen me" at all AFAIK, but the various "barbie pc" threads in general hardware and hot deals numbered in the hundreds, so I doubt there are just 2 of us that got that particular deal(s).(There were several)

2. I responded to his post "2" days after his original post (thats what I come up with when I count on MY fingers)

3. I don't live on these forums, but there is a nice feature that shows unread posts with different icons than read posts, therefore I would have seen his post despite your attempts to insult...err..help him.

This is getting really stupid. I'm not going to keep going back and forth forever but....

He didn't ask just for the keystroke that entered the BIOS he said:

Note he said 'ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED'. Also note that he presented this as a possible USB issues. USB is not unique to the Barbie PC. As to your other points:

1) I said you were the only people with Barbie PCs 'I have ever seen'. Do a search now for 'barbie' in General Hardware and Hot Deals and the number of threads number in the zeros.

2) He posted on Wednesday you replied Saturday. You call that two days I call it three. I know how your arriving at two though and that's fine. Please don't post back on this.

3) It's wonderful that you go back days in all the forums reading all the unread threads. With 88,000 members of the anantech forums you must live here because that's an awful lot of threads to read.

Anyway, rb v5:

Keltron insulted me. I insulted him back. It's great that you're the champion of the Barbie PC owners and everything but really let him fight his own battles or let this stupid thread die.

I think I'll bypass all that I had read on this thread as there was lots of good advice and lots of attacks/insults hurled( I love insults....lol ) but this Barbie machine( yes there was a HotWheels version too ) is all USB and when I saw that (in the original HotDeal thread even tho I was acquainted with this iteration of a computer before that thread) I am of the opinion( yeah yeah the saying goes.....) that any harddrive that I would put in a machine that did not have legacy support as this one shows I would format/install( excepting WinXP and whatever comes after) the OS and all the drivers for a USB keyboard and mouse as a bare minimum then place the harddrive in the gimpy computer( if you have another Intel 810/815 based comp this would be easy). I even had to do this (using my AMD based system) with a 440ZX chipped board( stupid Biostar sux but is now running fine even tho it thinks it has a 2GB harddrive but under Win98SE it shows 9.xx GB itsa 10GB Maxtor 7200rpm ATA66).

To enter bios, after you see the intel screen, hit Esc
They hit F2 when prompted.

Works for mE.
