How to get DOS games to connect through proxy?

i've set up a proxy on my server machine, and most of my programs can access the internet. but for dos games like quake1 (don't ask me why i play it) how can i connect to other servers?


i'm using win2k right now. do i need to setup a default gateway? if so, what does the "metric" field do?
