How to get dog pee smell out of carpet!

My dog pissed on my new carpet past weekend. I tried using detergent and hot water to wash it out. But my living room still smells like a public bathroom. What products are out there to cure this type of stuff? I heard not to stem the carpet but kem wash it? Need help!
 
Ammonia-based detergents will only amplify the smell. Use cleaners specifically designed for pet urine (go to Petco or Petsmart), or for a quick fix, try using a 50-50 mixture of water and vinegar.

EDIT: Second on Nature's Miracle, as Maximus96 said. We've used their cleaner since the first day we got our pup. Works great.
 
Nature's Miracle works great but you need to completely drench your carpet.

For volume, a cheaper alternative is vinegar. It'll completely kill the urine smell but make sure you flush it out with plenty of water. Otherwise your carpet will smell like vinegar, which isn't much better.
 
Ever spilled bong water? Now that's some nasty stuff right there, stinks up the carpet like no other. Even after you scrub it out, that sh** still smells like a mofo.
 
..50/50 solution of water and apple cider vinegar..in a spray bottle. Also acts as a deterent. 😉

Seconded. I don't know about vinegar as people suggested, never tried it myself. My thinking is that urine is highly acidic. Using another acidic product (vinegar) may encourage your dog you pee there again as they may mistake the acidic vinegar as another animal marking the spot. Using something basic (baking soda) would help battle against the acid from the urine. I could be completely off here.

I say this mainly because the cats at my mom's house used to spray things. She would clean up with ammonia or vinegar. A few days latter the cats would spray that spot again. After someone suggested a baking soda based product she tried it. The cats stopped respraying the spots.

I don't think that was because vinegar is acidic. It's because the cat has a sensitive nose and can still smell the urine, because your mom didn't adequately clean it. Products like nature's miracle have enzymes that help totally eliminate the residual odors that cats smell identifying the spot as a pee zone. A black light can also help verify that the stain is completely removed.
 
A combination of a couple of the above ideas works best:

1. Get a spray bottle
2. Add four tablespoons baking soda
3. Pour vinegar quickly in the spray bottle
4. Seal tightly and spray on spots.

This will work best because it breaks down the urine (vinegar) and then removes the smell (baking soda).

Can't go wrong.

Ever drink bong water? We got a friend of ours to drink it once, we told him he'd get high off it. Man, that was some funny sh!t. :laugh:

This stuff REALLY works. our little dog has incontinence issues and you have to go over the spot a few times, but it does get the stain out and the smell!

There's also a spray called "Urine Gone." Comes in a black, Windex-like bottle. Though that must be some toxic pup for it to still smell like a public bathroom.

Try a little steam cleaner. They're pretty cheap.

alternatively, fill a saucer with ammonia and leave it next to the stain overnight.
 
try multiple things? it couldn't hurt =) steam cleaner + fabreze + natures sounds like it'll definitely get the job done
