How to get creases out of a new rug?

A new large rug that we bought was in a tight roll when we got it. Now one end has a series of fairly sharp creases where it was rolled so tightly. How can we get these out? Can I iron the rug somehow?

Time will take care of this for you, but if you have to correct it sooner, (I don't blame you, it'd bug me too) then you could rent/buy a steamer. That should relax the carpet enough to let the creases smooth out.(you don't actually need a full-size carpet steamer, one of the small hand-held units should do the trick)

Ding-dang-it. We got a steamer for Christmas a few years ago. We never used it, so we just sold it in a yard sale not too long ago. That figures.

If you have a Stop & Shop near you, they usually rent Rug Doctor steamers.

Before going to too much trouble, try wetting it and leaving it wet overnight. They say that's the best way to get furniture indents out of carpet, it'll probably work on a rug too.

i think you should be more worried about the blood stains than the creases.
