How to get computer to drop ping requests?

OK- I have 2 computers on my LAN using broadband cable connection through a D-Link DI-704P router. I have tested my port security by using "Shields Up" on grc's website, and my computer (running XP Pro) is echoing the ping request from grc. All ports are "Stealthed". How does the ping request even get through to my computer when grc does not even "see" the correct IP address of the machine through the router?? I'm also running Norton 2003 and Zone Alarm (just started playing with this).

Is the echo reply even a concern? I just want to be secure with all this worm/virus crap running amuck!! I guess it just shows my computer exists on the internet? Can I get my computer to drop ping requests easily using Zone Alarm or some "secret" setting in XP??

Your router is answering the ping request, not your computer. There are settings in most routers to discard ping. Go into the configuration utility and see if you can turn that off.

Dlink calls this, "Block WAN Ping" there should be an option in your router to enable this feature, but beware, you will still get a response on the Ident Port to prevent this you need to port forward port 113 to an unused internal ip address so then it comes back as non existant, hope this helps.

I already have port 113 forwarded to a non-existant IP address. I do recall seeing the "block WAN ping" somewhere. I'll check that out and see if it works. Thanks!!

I set the router to "Discard PING from WAN side", and now ShieldsUp reports full stealth mode. Thanks all!!
