Not entirely correct.

Full 1080i or 1080p is 1920x1080, which the 2001FP most certainly cannot do.

Furthermore, since the 2001FP is 4:3 you would end up using only 900 pixels of vertical resolution to display anything in native 16:9 format. The 2001FP is capable of 720P, but not 1080i or 1080p.

What was your cable box set to output?

i was just testing with my LCD because i thought if i get a projector it would be similar. i have no idea what the cable box set was outputing, its suppose to detect things automatically.

i eventually went with component video to the TV, but Id love to setup a projector instead.

2001FP could do 1080p.
It could sync to anything as long as the vertical resolution is <1200

i have a feeling comcrust did disabled anything except the component outputs.

there's outputs for DVI, firewire, HDMI, on teh box and i bet none of those worked. To top it off, i got the crappy scientific atlanta DVR instead of the motorola one.

Im seriously considering getting a TIVO, especially since TIVO-to-go just came out, (think tivo'ed shows on your desktop), even though comcast DVR is free with $10 a month suscription and has dual tuners and is HDTV capable.

EDITed for clarity

comcast (at least around here) has not activated the DVI port on the back of thier boxes. I"m hoping that they do soon though.

You can still plug svid into the back of the monitor and it will look good. no where near HD though.

not sure if you could rig a vga pigtail to work with component outputs.
