I see a lot of people are forking $650+ for one of these and figured I'd tell you guys how/where to get one at MSRP if you don't already know. Go down to your local best buy and ask one of their managers to place a customer fulfillment order for you on the X800XT PE. The SKU is 6366602, they will need this when looking up the item in their computer. If they don't have it in their local warehouse, ask them to look for one in an out of state warehouse. Once ordered, you will go pay for it and they give you a receipt with a date to come pick it up at the store. However, be SURE you call at least 1-2 days ahead of the date on the receipt since they do tend to get it in early and one of the employees may just put it on the floor for sale. I had this happen to me for my first order so I had to do it again.

Or you can put that $500 into a one year CD at 2% interest.
One year later, you can use the $10 interest to purchase the already outdated card.

Or you can put it in ING savings account and get $511 after a year.

BTW, I don't see how paying MSRP is a hot deal. Maybe if it was a collectable, then yes, but this card will lose more value compared to a new car in a year.

Its a hot deal because these cards sell for $100+ above MSRP at most places that you can find them at. Computer hardware devalues, thats the way its always been, I don't know why you people are acting so surprised. If you aren't enthusiasts then go buy yourself a $50 Ti4200, I personally don't care (or want to know) if you think $500 is a lot for a card or not. Those that have money and are interested in high end cards will find this a good deal.

Why get one of these cards when you can get a 6800 GT for 300 if you catch them on sale that is.

And a 6800GT is as fast as an ATI XT.

6800 GT is as fast as an XT PE? Go create a 6800 GT hot deal thread, this is for people wanting an XT PE. BTW there is not a single store on the net or B&M that has ever sold a 6800 GT for $300, not even a used one.

6800GT (256MB version) $353.59

Enjoy your additional 3fps for the extra $250

First of all, $353 != $300, nor does $538-$353 =$ 250, go back to remedial school and learn some math. Second:

The ONLY time a 6800 GT keeps pace with an XT PE is in OpenGL games and/or Doom 3 (OpenGL). In DX it gets owned in any situation that is not CPU limited. If the CPU sucks, then yes they will perform similarly because the card is being held back--give it a fast CPU and it outpaces the GT by a large margin. In fact, the cheaper $450 X800XT > 6800 GT as well. nVidia doesn't even have good stable working drivers, people are STILL using the 61.77 drivers since the new 66.xx drivers create image quality problems and aren't as stable for a lot of people.

Oh and of course there's the whole shimmering issue with the 6800 line:

ATi isn't perfect either and they have their fair share of problems I'm sure and I REALLY didn't want/need this thread digressing into nVidia vs ATi since the thread was meant for people that want to purchase an x800xt PE but if you're going to make generalizations then they need to be debunked. Really you people need to learn not to hijack threads--create one in the video cards forum if you're so compelled to discuss the issue.

P.S. Take a look at adamants reseller ratings: http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1813.html

I am always amazed at the thread crappiing..there are people who will wantthe lastest and greatest and this is at least $100+ savings on the $650 price(that someoen in the FS/FT forum is charging)

I personally think anything over $250 is crazy for a videocard...I am so happy that 3dfx is gone now there is almost no competition and these prices are absurd

Yep exactly, seems some people just don't get the point of it. It is too bad the competition is a 2 horse race.

Hooray!, except that if you read about a dozen posts down goat will inform you that he ordered one from CDW at the same price back in june and has still not recieved it, either way the availablity of the high end cards is so rediculous right now that i think ill just wait until the winter/spring product refresh when bugs are worked out and yields(prices) are better.
