Not neccessarily true. Again as far as I know, delivery confirmation are not supposed to be used on letters. They are only for 1st class parcel/packages.
1st class parcels/packages are parcels/packages at or under 13 ounces I believe.
Also needs to be within a certain dimension, but then there isn't a lot of stuff that is extremely big and only weighs 13 ounces.
The less ounces the less you have to pay.
1st class mail also takes 1-4 (or was it 5?) days within the continental U.S. Most of the time it will say 3 days as the estimation.

two things I've been doing that I believe work well (although I have no proof) :)

On the receipt, circle the item/price and purchase date and store name if it's in a small font. (Even if they don't ask for it.), and

Use a paperclip to clip together the receipt, rebate form, and UPC.

the program i mentioned above also lets you store scans of your receipts, rebate forms and upcs. that way if you have to fax them (which is what I usually have to do when rebates don't arrive) you can just print them out or fax them directly from the pc if you have the software for it.

just fyi

you MUST make copies of everything and you can certify the mail for pretty cheap if it's something you really want (ie 200 dollar mac rebate etc).

Can you get delivery confirmation on a regular, 37 cent stamped envelope?

Or is it better to get certified mail, with or without return receipt requested?

YES! you can on a 37 cent stamped envelope.

Delivery confirmation has a return receipt that confirms delivery.

Never had to do certified mail.

That's interesting. I tried to get delivery confirmation on a letter I sent out via First class mail and they said they don't do delivery confirmation on first class mail

It can only be on first class mail parcels measuring AT LEAST 3/4 of of inch thickness. Delivery Confirmation is NOT for regular mail. Trust me..I use to work at the post office.

Don't get delivery confirmation. That's more expensive.

Certificate of mailing (not certified mail) is enough to verify (legally) that you sent a letter. This is used for important documents like college apps and what not. It verifies you sent the letter on a specific date, etc.

Another vote for Mad Dog as the worst. They have been the absolute worst company that I have had to deal with regarding rebates. After ~10 emails and re-submitting all the info I finally got my $30.00 after over 6 months on a 6-8 week rebate.
I will never buy another MD product unless I am held at gunpoint!

I dealt with many companies offering rebates. Companies offer rebates hoping you and i will forget to send them in or lose the rebate so they make out on the deal.

Many times the company processing the rebate will mail you a postcard saying it was denied for whatever stupid reason they can think of, making your big fat check seem even more worthless.

I won't buy anything with rebates anymore even if the deal is super-hot, if they company wants me to buy there product, sell it to me less the rebate price.

Many of you posted that you keep a list of the rebates you send out and make photocopies of the forms/etc.. seems like a waste of time to me. Companies like CrapUSA take 12-16 weeks to send you the rebate.

Rebates are a huge joke in the industry, they do it to make a profit.

REBATES SUCK!!

A lot of conflicting stories in this thread about what's needed, probably because some postal workers don't even know.

However I have NEVER been able to get DC around here unless I send a box, use Priority, or send it registered mail. Mailing rebates have always cost me >$4.

theres was a thread about this a year or so ago about using USPS Shipping Assistant software. Confirmation
requires a larger than 3/4" thick package os there a .12 non-machinable fee plus .13 for the confirmation making the total .64 .

the software genrates a .pdf of the label and you can save that. I would crop the extra info and reduce the label slightly at printing to make it fit on a regular #10 envelope. stuff a couple packing peanuts in it to make it over 3/4"
thickness. however I got over a 50% failure rate on the confirmations. The postal guys were just simply ignoring it.
only way to make an issue of it with them is to file refunds for thos $.13 confirmation fees. which just didnt seem
worth it after the fact.

if you want their officical confirmation stickers u must pay more and use larger envelopes and pay higher postage.

My advice:

Don't buy anything that requires a mail-in rebate. You'll end up wasting time on the phone listening to someone tell you how you didn't submit it properly, and time is money.

Bottom line is that rebate companies are in the business of finding ways to NOT send your rebate. This whole rebate scam should be illegal.

Any USPS postage that you buy from the USPS website and insure for $50 or more will require a signature at delivery.

A 1 oz letter costs .37, $50 insurance would require an additional $2.20, Total cost = $2.57. The delivery signature will be accessable from your online account on USPS
