Hi, I've recently embarked on a spree of destroying computer hardware (hence my requests for dead cpus and stuff in the FS/T forum).

How would you kill a mobo, cpu, vid card, hard drive, etc?

OC-ing is always good ...

Please, no suggestions like making my pet elephant stomp on a cpu and the like :D

Short a car battery across it.

For a hard drive, take it to a hardware store and see if they'll stick it in their paint shaker machine, then take it home and see if the platters still turn or if the heads grind. (Drives do have a high G tolerance when not operating, but I don't know what a paint shaker will get it up to, and it's a jarring shake.)

OCing doesn't really do any damage, it's overvolting that does it.

You could force an AGP card into a PCI slot. :) Or use thin gauge wire to connect pins from one slot to another.

for the cpu, take the fan/heatsink off and set the voltage to about 2.5

for the mobo, ever try running that 800mhz FSB?

Vid Card, try using a low quality water cooling on it

hard drive, magneto

At my previous work a guy ran over a computer with a truck.

Well, actually he didn't run all the way over it, more like hit it pretty hard, sending it on a pretty good flight.
Worked fine for destroying it anyway.

Just get this Virus for a Hard drive and open it.

WORST VIRUS EVER ---CNN ANNOUNCED

PLEASE SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST !!

A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by Microsoft
as the most destructive ever! This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon
by McAfee and no vaccine has yet ! been developed. This virus simply
destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital information for its
functioning are stored.

This virus acts in the following manner: It sends itself automatically to
all contacts on your list with
the title "A Card for You".

As soon as the supposed virtual card is opened, the computer freezes so that
the user has to reboot. When the ctrl+alt+del keys or the reset button are
pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying the
hard disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New
York, according to news broadcast by CNN. This alert was received by an
employee of Microsoft itself.

So don! 't open any mails ! with subject: "A Virtual Card for You."

As soon as you get the mail, delete it!! Even if you know the sender!!!

Get some solder and randomly connect some points on the mobo, see what you can comeup with.

Chances are you will blow it straight away, but you never know, you might devise a way for a 2kmhz FSB or summink

For the Hard Drive im all up for the paint shaker thing! :D

I would love to know if the drive would really withstand the supposed 350g/average that they all apparently will!

the processor is a simple pop the heatsink off whilst its switched on, or pop it off then switch it on.

On an Intel processor you might find it be better if you increase the voltage to max and then pop the heatsink off :)

Vid Card again is fairly simple, just take any heatsinks off of it!

PSU, that would be a funny one.

Take the fan out of the PSU, infact, take EVERY fan out of any machine you want to kill

See how long it runs silent for  ;)

What a cool post, you could pee on it while it was running over volt the cpu run the cpu with no heatsink/fan, kick the holy poo out of your setup, flambe it, stick it in the oven and see what temp the cpu actually MELTS at. Try playing hockey with your hdd or maybe using it instead of a can on a 'just married car' and see what its like when it gets back. Try forcing a pentium CPU into a socket A board maybe? If you put the wrong ram into a mobo it usually blows...all good stuff. For the AGP card you take off the fan and heatsink or maybe use chocolate instead of thermal compound. Of course if any of these set the hardware on fire, maybe pour a bottle of water over it while its on...or even better...whiskey or vodka :D(Cheap stuff of course). Super glue and fans you may have, stick metal things in places then turn it on, take it to your local dairy farm and drop it in a tank of cow poo....run it on 3 phase power? Flash the bios but kick it half way thru the process or pull the power out. All things i would love to try but havent got the guts. If you try these please do tell what happens ;)

Static Electicity would work for almost any computer part..just zap the sucker..

as to how to get the static electricty..well i dont know..although i did manage to get a lotta static from the dryer..

hope that helps

Use one of those static electricity creating thingys.

Now if i think back to the early days of school

Ah yes the VandeGraaff Generator.

Funny thing with a rubber belt and a metal bowl on the top.

I remember toying around with it and getting the shock of my life at the end of the lesson when i went to open the door with a metal handle :|

Of course i was insulated due to my rubber soled shoes :|

Oh well try one of those :)

thnx guys :D

no poop or pee-ing, something with a lil' more class!

i'll try overvolting and removing the heatsinks

also getting some ultra thin soldering wire, lets see how much i can cross solder without destroying the mobo, vid card

I'd try stuff I've always wanted to do, but have been to afraid to ruin everything.

First off, I've always wanted to have a super mini pc. Biggest problem is the PSU is too bulky, and the ATX MB is too long. First step is to bust out the soldering iron and a hack-saw. Take the PSU out of it's case, and pray to god you don't accidentally screw with one of the capcitors. Try cutting the cable down to a manageable 3 or 4 inch length. Solder it directly to the MB.

Next, look at the circuitry on the MB and find the areas that look the least important. Use the hacksaw to make your own mini-atx standard. You'll want "low profile" pci/agp cards, so try performing the same procedure with the hack-saw and make your own SUPA-low profile cards.

Now what's with those bulky cd-rom cases??? Try taking the CD-rom out of it's bulky packaging, and soldering it directly to IDE 2 (make sure it's now a "master" or "cable select", cause it sure as hell isn't a slave). two sticks of ram will probably hold it the necessary 3/4" off the MB. try super gluing to the top of the ram to secure it.

Finally, you'll need a HD. Unfortunately there's not a lot of wasted space in the HD package, so the best you'll be able to do is to super glue the HD next to the cd-rom and solder it to IDE1 (also as master).

The close proximity of the components (should fit into a nice 6x8x2.5" format) will require (1) overvolted 80mm fan (which should be soldered directly to the PSU). Finally, when everything is ready to go, try super gluing it to the side of your desk, or perhaps the ceiling. Passing n00bs will look on with wonder at your 1337 creation.

Good luck-

  1. Put every voltage and frequency setting in the BIOS to the max. See what melts first.
Slice of bologna in the CDROM.
While running defrag, repeatedly hit HD with rubber mallet.
Lap the CPU core with a belt sander.
    Play musical jumpers!

I could go on forever...

took a computer from here to India, forgot to switch the power to 220. power cord burnt/melted and then the apartment's fuses blew.

also, plugged in a Dell mobo (proprietary crap) into a regular PS ... no sound, no smoke, not even a hiccup! it just died!

LOL Billyjack. Virtual card virus

Here's something to try: Force the PSU connector onto the motherboard backwards.
