How to Format

Getting a new Computer built with Windows XP Home Edition built. Previously always owned manufactured Comps. such as Dell, Compaq etc. Anyway here are the specs:
AMD Athlon XP1600
40GB HD
512 MB DDR RAM
Radeon 8500
Audigy Soundcard
Internet Card

Anyway I would be appreciative how to configure the unit. Do I just put the CDRom disk in and follow the instructions?

I only use the Computer for internet surfing and game playing so I dont need any fancy partioning. However I would need a separate "D" drive or would I ?

AS new computer with XP Home installed should need little or no configuring. Read the instructions carefully . . . set it up exactly as they say in the literature, and take it step by step. It should work correctly right out of the box. Don't try to make any changes or "fix" anything until you learn what is the way it is. Good luck and happy computing. 🙂

If I understand correctly, will XP install IE6 automatically or can I ignore that and install Opera or another Browser?

It is integrated into it, I don't believe you have an option to not install it. But you should be able to install Opera too.
