How to force domain login screen

I need to have the option to enter a domain when logging on to Windows 2000. I use a workgroup at home, and I get the usual login screen with "Username" and "Password" boxes - but no domain box. When I go to work, I need to log in to a domain.

I've already tried setting "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\ShowLogonOptions" to 1. This does not work.

Anyone have any other ideas?

(I've also tried Multinetwork Manager and Netswitcher to do this. They work, but create other problems and instabilities, so I can't use them).

you have to add the machine to the domain
right click on my computer and go to properties
then the second tab (i forget the name)
Then look for the settings to set it up for the domain
you will have to be connected to the domain network and it will go check the domain server and you will also have to have the rights to add yourself to that domain (normally only domain administators have these rights)

Anything else, or something you don't understand?

workgroups don't have domain boxes...because they aren't members of a domain.

Am I missing something?

All I want to do is to get the "domain" login box so that I can login to a domain when one is available. I'm switching between a workgroup at home and a domain at work. When I used Netswitcher and Multinetwork Manager, I had two "profiles", one for home and one for work. When I chose the work profile, I got the domain box login, but I didn't when I chose the home profile.

So, there must be a switch in Windows somewhere that determines whether to show the domain login box or not.

Am I missing something? Is there some other setting on my computer that I need to set in order to login to a domain other than specifying the domain name, user name and password?

To log into a domain at windows startup, you must have three things:

1: You must have an account.
2: An "account" for your workstation must be created in the domain. It can be done manually, or in step #2 when you computer is joined to the domain.
3: A domain administrator (or someone with equal privs) must joined your laptop to the domain. This means they have to come over and enter their username/password. Only machines that have been joined to the domain get to fully login to the domain.

It is #3 that triggers your machine to be prompt for the domain login. Has this been done? If you look in your MS network settings, does it show you being part of the domain in question?
