How to force an app to stay open.

I have an Android tablet, running Ice Cream Sandwich. On long drives and other situations, my toddlers sometimes use a drawing app on it. The problem is that they sometimes accidentally hit a software or hardware button on the tablet and inadvertently close the app. They are not yet savvy enough to reopen the app.

So, I am looking for a way to force an app to stay open and then close only if a combination of buttons are pressed. Any ideas?

I have seen that some iOS users place guards over the home button, but I am more interested in a software solution.

Sounds like a difficult question since the developer will obviously not implement such requests for general public. So what can help you is to disable the capacitive buttons while a certain app is running, right?

On my Asus Transformer TF-101, it has a setting to lock the tablet preventing accidentally hit other software buttons such as "Home", "Recent Apps", etc. (eg. playing game)
