How to fix the Half-Life underwater "hall of mirrors" or "opaque blue" problem in D3D on GeForce 3?

Just wondering if anyone knows how to correct this problem. If I disable Fog Table Emulation in the Display Control Panel I get the "opaque blue" problem. If I enable Fog Table Emulation I get the "hall of mirrors" problem. I'm using the Detonator XP v23.11 drivers.

the awnser is simple, nvidia is a leader in the development of open gl, the gefoce3 is the best open gl gameing card on the market, swich from dirct3d to open gl and all your problems will be solved.

Is there a particular reason why you prefer Direct3D over OpenGL for this game? HL and all games based out of the same Q1/Q2 engine run best in OpenGL when it came to 3D renderers. The original graphics engine was optimized for this API. To get rid of the problem you're having, I suggest you try switching the 3d renderer over it.

Well OK, if everybody thinks HL is best in OpenGL then I guess I'll try it. I've been running in D3D on my TNT2 Ultra for a few years and it worked perfectly so I never bothered to try OpenGL. Thanks!

I've tried it once for $hits n' giggles. Defiantly not as good as OpenGL. I don't see any reason why someone who owns an nVidia board would want to run D3D.

Halflife is much faster in OpenGL than it is in Direct3D. Not much of a surprise really, given it's Carmack's coding skills verses Valve's coding skills.
