Hi, my 2 wks old seagate 160 Gig HD is stated as unformatted under disk manager running WIN2k Pro. It was working fine for those 2 weeks, but then 2 days ago i've notice one of the directory was not accessible. I didnt think much of it, but after next logon under My Computer the drive D: is still listed but it's prompting to be formatted. My Win2k OS is running on a totally seperate 6gig drive C: I have ran out of options.

I've used Fix-it v4, partition magic 8, disk investigator, acronis recovery expert (didnt run), Getdataback (didnt fix partition and most of the files recoverable was not even 5% of the data it contained. The only one tool that shown some sign of luck is Recover It All v3.0. It actually shows that the drive D: partition needs to be rebuilt. However, i only have the demo copy and cant find a crack to test it's job. At this point, i truly think the partition is the only thing damaged. The software is 149 (i think), but i dont want to waste more money if i am not sure that it'll be recovered. Also, virtuallab would be too expensive to repair it.

I have asked around and searched the web. Some have suggested Norton Systemworks has a tool to fix this. Any1 with any suggestion on how i can fix this 'DAMAGED PARTITION'?? or even a link where i can search for more help. Even better if i can locate a crack for Recover It All. thx for your help.

here's a good link for more info on disk recovery:
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1139&page=1

Also, i just got my hands on a copy of Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional v6.0. I have been able to recover mostly pdf, jpg, gif, bmp, some doc. everything is a mess. all files are mashed into one folder. I rather be able to recreate the partition where i can just copy all the files in folders. Any help or suggestion is still needed thx

maybe your hd is faulty, just send it to the shop where you bought it & claim for warranty.

it's brand new seagate, and i've check the hd for hardware error with several tools. There's no sign of hd faulty error. I need to get my data from that hd. I dont believe factory will help me claim those data back. would they??

I wouldn't have thought that's going to help you much.
Besides, I'd avoid talking about warez on here if I were you.... it's not tolerated by the Mods.

I'll try using the Recovery Module of Win2K and rebuild the Main Boot Sector. The MBS might have been corrupted. This will not delete you data.
