I found a crack on my windowshield, approx. 3 inches long on the bottom left corner of the windshield as seen from the driver's seat. Is there a way to fix this crack (i.e., using sealing compound) without replacing the whole windshield?

*update*
just got into my car 8 hrs later, and the crack grew to 6 inches!... fck

You might drill a small hole at the end of the crack to keep it from growing but I don't think you can fix it. Drilling in the glass is extremely difficult also.

Replace the windshield, no fix for a crack. The good news is, if it's not in the line of vision, it's not illegal.

Replace it. A lot of states have laws where your insurance HAS to replace it for no charge and no ding for premiums as it is a safety hazard.

Happens in Louisiana all the time because of the multitude of rocks on the roads. If you don't catch the chip before it turns into an actual crack, then as the others have said, there's no fix other than a new windshield (at least that I'm aware of).

I've got a fairly long crack at the top of my windshield now, as a matter of fact. Not looking forward to having to replace that.

repair kits have some glue type substance that will fill the crack a bit to keep it from spreading. the one i tried once basically had a stick of glue you sorta injected into the crack using a holder mounted with suction cups. then you pushed on the back of the windshield to help it work into the crack a bit. you shave the excess off with a razor. that being said cracks can compromise your roof strength in a roll over. if you don't do anything it will probably grow ..

Do you have full coverage insurance?

Q: "how to fix crack on the windshield? "

A: Park your car in your driveway and sit on your windshield, with your feet on your hood. Get a small glass vessel, w/a tight lid. Place a small quantity of cocaine, baking soda and ice water, into vessel and seal the lid tightly. Swirl in a counter-clock-wise direction. When solution becomes a yellowish glob, remove all excess water and let glob dry. Smoke in appropiate device.

replace it ... or try some silicon if it is small. rock dinks are pretty easy to keep from splintering with silicon.

I'm not really sure. I just remember that's the way Mitch swirled the vessel.:) It most likely doesn't matter.

If your car was made in the last ten years for the U.S. market it will have safety glass (the glass that crumbles on impact rather then laminated glass, which breaks into shards). Good thing about safety glass is it is safe/ The bad thing is that when you get a crack, it is likely that is can' t be fixed and the windshield must be replaced. However, there is a resin that you can get that might work.

Usually the cost for a w/s repair is about 50 bucks.
the cost on a corolla w/s off teh top of my head would come out to around 200 bucks or so...

You don't. I remember when I was a stupid punk kid and was banging on the car windshield in winter. Well, guess what cracked? During the ride home, the small crack grew to the top and bottom limits of the windshield. Get it replaced:(.
