I have seen good advice that suggests you should initially assemble motherboard; CPU and CPU cooler on a table prior to installing in the case and testing that everything is ok that way.
My question is: how do you power that arrangemnt on? If the PS is fitted, the mobo does not power on in this arrangement. It needs the power supply switch on the front of the case pressed. How does one simulate that on a table top?

Thanks

All the power switch does is short the two pins that it connects to. So, in order to power on the mobo, simply take a piece of wire and connect the two pins that the Power Switch would connect to. I like to just lay the mobo on an anti-static mat right on top of the case though, so I can hook up everything.

I usually just take my trusty screwdriver and short those two pins. If you need to turn it off then put the screwdriver between the two pins and hold for five seconds, or use the power switch on the back of the power supply.
