How to fight toll booth ticket?

I think I might have incurred a toll booth violation, what is the best way to deal with this without paying? It was a mistake on my part, you had to pay multiple times along the road which I didn't realize until it was too late. I ended up running an automated booth. So what to do? I don't know if this helps my situation or not, but it happened during the dead of the night. I get pissed off thinking about this because the whole situation is arranged for the clear purpose of trying to get as many people to make as many mistakes as possible and then to systematically milk them once they've messed up.

The booth I ran was automated, which was probably equipped with a IR camera to catch offenders. No officers were involved.

NM. I found their website and for first time violators, they will send a letter asking that I pay the original toll with no other fees.

Oh, was it something like Speed Pass?

That actually checks if your car has the electronics in it, and if it does, it deducts $ out of your account. If it doesn't, it takes a picture of your plates. That's how they got you.

Isn't it amazing how a rip off toll situation designed to cause as many mistakes as possible becomes a God send generosity machine when the fine for trying to cheet is only the original toll. :D

<< It was a mistake on my part >>

Here's a novel idea: personal responsibility. Accept your mistake, pay up, and move on. How much money are we talking here? A few bucks? Sheesh! I bet you won't do it again.

yeah, speed pass style thing.

But the way the booths and signs are setup is still so freaking confusing. I can still see myself getting confused again the second time around. And what's with this you have to pay multiple times along the way? That really doesn't make sense. Why not just charge more up front? And they put this sign right after the booths that says "76 dollar violation fine", if nothing else to mess with your head.

It was a relief when I read the webpage. But the civil engineer who designed that mess should be fired.

I don't think you'd be saying that if you had a 76 dollar fine sitting in your hands. :p

How hard is it to read a sign telling you "Pay Toll Ahead"? And yes, I would take personal responsibility and pay. Sure, I'd be mad as hell, but I'd make damn sure it didn't happen again. If they've set it up to be confusing, and I don't doubt it's confusing, at least you know that now and are one step ahead of their "game". Another part of being personally responsible is to be prepared.

Feisters...

So I guess you're saying it was a personal failure on my part that I lost points on my drivers license test due to a combination of:

1) Faded center lines
2) Water on the road, making it reflective

I couldn't see the center line between lanes on a particular stretch of road, thought there was only one lane, & failed to turn into the nearest lane. In theory, had I been driving alone, I could have gotten a ticket for it.

WTF does personal responsibility have to do with getting nailed for an honest mistake?

OuterSquare, you really do have my sympathy even though I razzed you. I have trouble reading signs quickly probably due to some kind of dyslexia or something, and I miss my turnoffs with regularity. Twice I crossed the bay bridge and had to pay toll cause I missed the Sacramento sign.

Sorry Ornery, I live in California. :p

No big deal Moonbeam. I expect atleast some people to poke fun at me, but no harm is meant.

Sometimes I think these personal little backlashes against the recent disresponsible american attitude is a bit too much. I mean, I understand the sentiment, but seriously, some flexibility is needed for some situations.

My advice is to change the name of the thread if you want any sympathy. Saying that you want to fight it is what has everyone riled up.
