Hi guys,

I have 2x 6950s in Xfire mode and I have 3 monitors (22", 17" and HDMI TV).

The 22" is the primary monitor and I'd like to extend my desktop to the 17" and the HDMI TV.

I don't want to game on 3 monitors, just extend desktop, so I don't think the eyefinitty thing is what I'm looking for.

Currently I have to manually switch between the 17" and the HDMI TV, when I want to use the TV as my extended monitor, so I'd like to avoid having to do that.

Can this be done?

Thanks!

can be done w/ any card that has 2 outputs plus any other output, whether via a second card or even your mobo's igp output.

not sure if it can be done while xfiring though

Normally I would say yes, but not sure with the 17 and TV, may have to do with the ports you are using!

Would xfire prevent me from doing this?

use to, no idea with the current cards.

As to the three you want to use, definitly need to make sure only two are connected to each card regardless of the connectors on offer.

Perhaps that is my first mistake. Currently I have all 3 going to the same card, DVI, DVI and HDMI.

So are you saying I should maybe to DVI, DVI to card 1 and HDMI to card 2?

I'm at work at the moment or else I'd just try it then find out :)

If you want to drive 3 monitors with crossfire, you will need an active DP adapter.

What do you mean by an active DP adapter?

You mean extend across 3 monitors?

One of the displays would be on the adapter, probably one of the DVI displays.

Also, I believe your 6950s use a mini-displayport, instead of the full-size displayport linked for sale at Newegg. Your card should have come with an adapter to convert to mini-DP if you go with that full-size dp, but you may want to just get a mini-dp active adapter to reduce the number of connections between the card and the monitor.

Interesting... so just to recap, you are saying that if I want to NOT Disable Crossfire and to extend my desktop across 2 monitors, I will need this adapater?

Do I need just one? And what would my connections look like ?

2 x 6950

22 " = DVI
17 " = DVI
TV = HDMI

Correct, in order to drive 3 monitors in crossfire, you will need the adapter.

What would I connect to what once I have the adapter?

Just pick which monitor you want to be driven through the adapter and hook it up.

You're probably looking at 2 DVI driven displays and 1 though DisplayPort to DVI.
