Did you apply at the salvation army?

Fvck you Gigapet. It's not easy to get into the Army. How long have you served anyway?

No, because you'll get people killed. If you can't here how will you take orders and communicate with the soldiers around you?

Being enlisted in the Army, I agree. I just dont see you joining any sort of combat arms, no matter who you write.

I dont see why you couldn't do something in support though.

When I went through this summer, I was told anyone with any hearing problems could not join, period. There were actually quite a few guys that were sent back home from reception at BCT.

Sorry man, but they wont let you join... rightfully so. The liability crap is really important wheather or not you realize that is up to you. Why should the military put so many people in danger just because you feel like you need to fight? if you want to make a difference then volunteer your time, you dont need to cause people to die for your own selfish acts.

I've been to a marine recruiters office its really not that hard and two of friends just completed marine bootcamp....unless your totally obese they are desperate for anyone to join. Maybe it was different back in the day but now the recruiter was telling me to LIE on some of the questions that might get me disqualified. That being said....the marines is more selective than the army.

Just because one recruiter is dishonest and willing to lie doesn't make it a policy of the US military. The recruiter can say anything he wants but he can't change policy. If they told you to lie about something if you wanted in, and they found out later it was a lie, you would most likely be discharged and the recruiter would say he never told you to say that and his numbers would not change. If he told you to lie, why would he not lie in order to keep his job? Bottom line is, if any recuiter tells you anything, it doesn't mean squat unless you have it in writing, just like with any contract. That's one of the very first things you learn in Basic Training.

your still sidestepping the fact that the army hasn't met its quota in years and they have lowered there standards.

Didn't someone - maybe even the OP - post more or less this exact thread sometime ago?

Long and short of it is that deafness is service-disqualifying, and you have no "right" to serve. I admire your desire to serve, but I suggest you consider another avenue of community service, like the Peace Corps, where your deafness won't keep you out.

EDIT: Here we go - this is the thread from last time.

Case in point. If he told you to lie about it, then you were denied entry because of medical reasons, he still gets credit for recruiting you if you're denied or discharged for medical reasons if he didn't know about it. If they're desparate, wouldn't they overlook the fact that you're that fvcked up? I think not.

HAHA, they're desperate but they won't accept you. How's that make you feel?

I would have passed the physical fitness test. I met all the running speeds and strength and flexibility requirements fact is the only reason i went was to make my buddy he got extra time on leave to serve as a rec. assistant look good.

They haven't met their quota because were in a war, how is that hard to understand?

Tell me what standards they have lowered. I haven't heard of any.

I'm not sidestepping Timmay.

I pretty much told them the truth i have a two year work ocntract before I can do anything and that i'd probably do OCS for pilot school if I decided to do anything.

You could try for a desk job.... but active duty will never happen. How would you hear when someone yells "Grenade!". Everyone else dives out of the way and you stand there with a dumb grin on your face right up until you're dead....

If you had any idea what you were talking about, you'd know what an asinine statement that is. The standards have not been lowered. The burden of proof is on you since you made that statement.

I went through OCS boy, you won't make it. The dropout/failure rate is over 60%. If what you told me is true, you won't even make it to the selection board. Besides, in the Army you have to complete Basic Training and AIT and get to your first unit before you can even apply for OCS with your Commander's approval. With what you've already told me, your packet wouldn't even be forwarded to the board for review with your medical conditions. Let's say you do make it through all that. Pilot school is even more competitive and they take only the best of the best.

Haha...you actually made me laugh out loud at that.

How is it NOT easy to get into the Army? I was under the impression (from seeing a number of losers who couldn't hack it in the real world run to the army's open arms) that they took anyone who could walk in a straight-line...

I know there are some physical requirements but those are things that can be attained...

I could be way off base here, I'm not trying to give you a hard time, I'm more or less curious...plus I'm a little jaded...way too many of the kids I know jumped to the military after failing at making it on their own...

Talk to your local recruiter and ask what kind of desk jobs they have on-post for hearing impaired folks. He'll either laugh you out of his office or pull strings to break the rules. No matter what job you do, you still have to complete basic training, which requires hearing.
