Hello I've just successfully installed my new AMD 64 X2 6000+ processor, upgraded from single core.

However I have a feeling it isn't properly configured yet - it shows in system properties "AMD Processor model unknown". Do I need to install some kind of drivers or anything?

Regards

Find out exactly what type of motherboard you have and download the latest BIOS. You probably need to update it.

Hi guys

Yes I'm pretty sure I need to update my bios its 2 years old.

However I am having some trouble doing it.
I have downloaded the bios update .bin file from the ASUS website, however when I run EZ Flash from my bios it won't detect the file on either the hard drive or the CD I put it on.
Does it HAVE to be on a floppy disk? I don't have any to hand :(

Thanks for the help.

I have a program which came with my motherboard called AsusUpdate.. it updates the bios from windows which I've heard is not recommended but is it actually all that risky?

get the latest version of asusupdate from their website. Its not the ideal method but its not too bad. I used it plenty of times. (usually it has problems with finding the latest version or connecting to the website. not with actually flashing...)

The ideal method is to use EZ flash... which does NOT use the HDD or the CD... it uses a usb flash drive.
Get one, put the bin file on it, and have it plugged into a USB slot when you power on your computer.

check the warnings first. Some boards will have a warning such as "do not use EZ flash/Asus Update to upgrade from bios v2 or older". Due to a problem with your current bios version.

Worse case scenario it ruins the bios chip and asus will send you a replacement ship to insert into the board.

Er, I used it before, and it worked fine for me. Not saying it's recommended or not, just saying it worked fine for me. Haven't heard any complains about it either.
