how to enable DMA in windows 2000

I have a maxtor drive all ready to rock as an ata/66 and I am using FIC sd11, which allows 4 dma devices, but I just don't know how to enable it.
It is so slow, and I need to get things workin okay for video capturin.

Is it possible that I have other devices sucking up the DMA resources? I am using t-beach montego II soundcard, which uses I think two DMA channels, and I am using ATI all in wonder.

Can someone help me out? 😉

thanks

When you install drivers for your mobo it will enable DMA is possible. If you have a Via chipset, you need the latest 4 in 1 drivers, they have a IDE driver where you can check DMA or not.

As for a sound card, no idea. I am pretty sure sound cards don't use any, or at least my SBLive isnt listed as using one. I could be wrong here though.

go to the device manager (under properties of my computer). find your ide ata/atapi controllers. expand that, and then go to the properties of the ide channel your harddrive is on. under advanced settings you'll find what transfer mode the drives are in, and you can change it there. other devices won't be sucking up dma resources. HTH

by default Win2k needed a reg patch to properly enable ATA 66. I thought service pack 2 may have fixed this.

If you are having problems look through the Win2k tweaking section at 3dspotlight where is has instructions for enabling DMA
