How to enable core voltage control on AMD cards?

I finally took the plunge and upgraded to 7950. My plan was to enable unofficial overclocking mode in MSI afterburner like I've read in so many guides. I was planning to bump the voltage a bit and try going for 1050-1100 on the core. However, try as I might I cannot enable core voltage control.

I've been using this as my guide:
http://www.overclock.net/t/1196856/official-amd-radeon-hd-7950-7970-owners-thread/7110#post_16790928

This is what I've done:
-Uninstalled nvidia drivers
-rebooted into safe mode and ran driver sweeper
-swapped my GTX260c216 for 7950
-installed 12.7 betas
-installed amd app sdk
-installed afterburner 2.2.2
-downloaded missing dll's and placed them in the MSI Afterburner program files directory
-modified config file according to instructions in the MSI Afterburner folder
-modified config file according to instructions in the MSI Afterburner\Profiles folder
-launched MSI afterburner with xcl flag
-rebooted
-changed flags and mode to kernel

After all of this I still can't get it to work. I still cannot change core voltage. What am I doing wrong?

EDIT: I've been doing more reading and it looks like voltage control is not supported on non ATI cards? Mine is XFX, does this mean I can never get to control core voltage?

For clarity this is the card I got: XFX Double D FX-795A-TDJC I got that one specifically because it had 6+8 pin connectors which could indicate 7970 PCB, and because it had lots of outputs including at least one dual link DVI output. When I did research it turns out some cards such as MSI 7970 Lightning only had single link DVI outputs which is unacceptable for a card in that price range IMO. XFX card possibly had 7970 PCB and had the most flexible output of all cards I looked at, actually even though I cannot test it yet, but the box itself says it has two dual link DVI connectors as opposed to only one, so if that's true, that's a nice bonus as well. Plus HDMI 1.4a.

I'm assuming you checked "Unlock voltage control"? You shouldn't have to do -xcl unless you want to exceed CCC clock speed limits, which your target 1050-1100 is within that limit. I leave it on user mode, not kernel mode. 12.7 driver shouldn't need modified files either.

Try uninstalling drivers and Afterburner and do a clean reinstall. Enable voltage control and monitoring, and leave low level access on user. Although you have an XFX, it's still technically an AMD card.

I can't get voltage control to work on my FX-795A-TDJC either. I've tried both of those guides, and I can't gain access to any MSI Afterburner controls.

Sapphire Trixx.

Great little program with a good fan profile setup too. No on screen info though. Just simply and OC tool.

*edit*

Just unchecked the "Enable Graphics Overdrive" in the ATI control panel and restarted Trixx and now voltage control works fine...

Makes no sense, but it's working now so that's good.

Hi everyone. I installed the XFX 7950 TDJC yesterday and was able to adjust voltage using Trixx. Only problem is, voltage is capped at 1.13v. Unfortunatley, MSI Afterburner doesn't support voltage adjustment on this card. So if anyone has any tips on increasing voltage, please share. The card performs well and has a GPUZ ASIC rating of 91.6%. Thanks.

make sure overdrive is turned off in catalyst control center like the above post mentioned
