How to enable automatic power down on laptop

I just reinstalled Windows 2000 Pro on a ThinkPad. It used to auto power off when shut down. Now it stops at the "It is now safe to turn off" screen. How can I get it to simply power down again?

Try update all device drivers & Windows updates.
