How to embed a video to a web page?

I wouldn't think this would be that hard but I'm not finding much online...

I have an AVI file I want to put online. I have a web site I can put it on. I just want a standard page like on thousands of websites where someone clicks play and watches the video.

It's currently a couple hundred megs in AVI format so would I be better off converting it to something else? Just looking for the easiest solution.

I'd put it on a video hosting site, and use their embed options to put it on your site.

Have a recommendation that's free? This is just a one time thing and woudl only be up for a week or two. Or do you mean like Youtube?

Are you opposed to using YouTube for some reason?

Just upload the video as "unlisted" and grab the embed code. Paste that into your web page HTML and you're good.

Problem is it's a 35 minute video I recorded in off a VHS tape. Youtube has a 15 minute limit so I'd have to break it up. I'd rather just plop it on my own website and put some code on a page to play it. DIdn't think it'd be so complicated....

Google video does not have the same limit but I'm not sure if they have stopped accepting uploads. YouTube recently removed my limit and a quick google search shows that they have gotten more lenient and are doing that for many of their users with a few compliant videos. Might wanna upload a vid and see if you qualify.

I did and it rejected me. That's how I found out there was a limit in the first place.
