how to edit a .mov file..

anybody know what kinda software to use to edit a .mov file?? or how to convert it to .avi?? either one will work...

edit: ok, Im looking for FREE software here, FREE being the keyword of course.... this is a one time thing, so... little help please...

would actually prefer something free.. and id actually prefer to convert it from .mov to .avi if thats possible.. or conver to .mpg.. something that wmp can play...

Adobe Premiere can do this.

QT Pro is only $30 and I can't think of anything free that will allow you to convert/edit a .MOV.

Now why would he want to purchase Adobe Premiere (which costs over $500) when he just said that he didn't want to spend $30 foir QuickTime Pro? That's just silly.
