how to dry wet carpet

sombody got any tips. i just woike up an realised i let the faucet in the kitchen running. now a small portion (about 10-11 sqft) is soaked. i lifted it up and the under padding is also soaked. any tips.

I have a carpet shampoo machine that does a good job of water extraction. I've also used my shop vac. Even after that you should still run fans or space heaters for a day.

well here's what i've done so far. ripped out the carpet(from wet area). removed wet padding. spreinkeled silica gell below the carpet put fan on carpet.

Seconded. Replacing the pad would help you avoid getting mold or mildew were you unable to get things completely dry.

yeah but for now i figure i leaving it there for some time will absorb the moistrue.

anyone know if this will lead to insects. i had a major ant problem before that look many many bottles of insecticide to solve.

That's just it, the silica gel absorbs the liquid and doesn't let it evaporate.

hmm i did not know that. its currently lying underneath my carpet where the padding used to be.
the carpet is no top and a fan is aimed rigth on it. i kind of planned to remove the silica in a day using a dust buster. shoudl i remove it immediatly ?

Wont help you now but you can rent a special blower that you peel back the edge of the carpet and it will blow under the carpet and pad to completey dry it. Better than pulling the carpet up.

oh yeah it works....I had a room in the basement get flooded when the water heater burst. Shop vac and fan for 3 days it was completely dry.

hmm thanks for the info. i have small floor fan . i guess i could prop up the carpet and use that. min isn't nearly as bad as the entire room.
