"Simply put the special bit in the drill thingy, and drill a hole!"

- End Scene!
- burn thru 7 bits, smash thumb with hammer, call uncle Eddy to bring his hammer drill, break for dinner, drill hole in the morning once Eddy has sobered up, move lady back in to position with pink drill...
- ...aaaand Action!

"Voila! Now just put in the screw, (remember folks!, righty-tighty lefty-loosey) and hang your swing from this old broom stick! It's easy and fun. Be sure to watch our next video about building a bicycle from a chicken carcass and don't forget to follow us on insta-twitter-book!"

Come to think of it, I'm not so sure that any of my vent covers are screwed into brick, might be screwed into pipe then a cover snapped on, or just caulked on. They're not falling off so I feel no compulsion to change them.

I find there's "hammer drills", then there's HAMMER drills. You want the HAMMER drill. Ex:

https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/p.1--inch--sds-plus-bulldog-extreme-rotary-hammer.1000657245.html

These have a much bigger kick than a standard drill that has a hammer drill mode. The cost will pay for itself by saving you so much time whenever you need to drill in masonry.

I used to use my Dewalt and it would take about a minute to drill a decent size hole in concrete, say, with a 1/2" bit. With this drill it's seconds. For vents such as 5" and so on I trace out a circle then just put a bunch of holes then chizel it out. I slather hudrolic cement around then insert the vent, then put construction adhesive on the flange part that touches the wall to make sure it will stick in place. You can pretty much get away without even screwing it in, but you can if you want. Follow with a bead of caulk all around to seal it. Don't caulk the bottom just the sides and top. That way if water does get in, it will be able to flow out.

^ Might be a case of using a cannon to kill a mosquito. The pipe hole for the vent is already there, just needs cap attached more securely.

What are you saying drilling a hole in a brick is hard? If so you would be wrong.

^ Well there is a school of thought that if it's hard enough, it justifies to your wife/etc to buy TOOLS, lol.

It seems that since you were able to easily drill into some butter soft brick you are certain that it is easy in all cases.

They are not all the same. At one point people paid me to do this stuff (lol) and I have encountered bricks that were as difficult as precast concrete to make a clean hole in.

This also ignores that drilling holes in exterior brick is pretty dumb. Water is the enemy of brick, drilling holes gives another path for water entry, permanently damaging something that can last for centuries if not abused. It should be the last option.

Don't hate me because I'm an attention craving genius.
