I agree with FuzzyBee. Since you're meeting with new people you want to make the best first impression possible and also because this is the CEO, being well-dressed shows that you recognize the importance of the person and the meeting. You got called back for a second interview which means you made a good impression on them so the suit certainly didn't hurt.

I hear you on that, but can't it be assumed that I wasn't listening to the person who would be my direct boss?

Hmmm, you have a point there. If he is going to be in the meeting then I would go with the black dockers, gray sweater, etc. combo you mentioned before. It sounds casual, but conservative enough that there wouldn't be anything noticeable that they could be critical of.

Good Luck!

Now, should i wear a tie under the v-neck sweater? Not only will he be there but they're taking me out to lunch - I'm so freakin' nervous! The guy I'm replacing (on good terms, he's moving), my possible boss, and the CEO all having lunch with me.. I'm quite terrified, actually.

Thanks for the well wishes!

Normally I would say to go with the tie to make it a little dressier and more professional, but it kind of depends on the cut of the sweater, how old you are, and the responsibilities of the position. Sometines a tie under a V-neck sweater like that can give a school boy uniform kind of look to someone, probably not what you'd want to be going for unless they are looking for a youthful appearance.

Try it on and look at yourself in the mirror with and without the tie and see what sort of impression you get of yourself with both looks.

Last question - collar under the v-neck or over? I usually wear the collar out, but isnt' that a little clubby?

I always wore suit/ties to interviews.. Usually interviewed for "jobs" not careers.. does that make sense?

I'm with you on the collar out looking "clubby", a little too casual I think.

THIS is a nice look, maybe kind of what you're going for. It is pretty casual, but you should be able to gauge from how the people you talked to before were dressed as to whether or not it would be too casual.

And if you have a sport coat that would match, I think something like THIS is a really nice combination of casual and business.

If the tie and sweater look is good on you, I think you should go with that. Never hurts to look a little more dressed like was said before.

So, did you decide to go with the sportcoat or without?

Don't be nervous at the lunch. They are probably just wanting to see if you are a good fit with the people there, someone they can be comfortable working with everyday. Just follow their lead, relax, and don't overdo trying to impress them.

Let us know how it goes. I've got my fingers crossed for you.

When I got an interview for my current job, they told me that I dont' need to dress up at all. I showed up wearing a nice pair of jeans, and a collared shirt.

Suit and Tie -- CEO could be offended, or may not. Never can go wrong with over dressing to an interview.

I actually don't own a sportscoat - gonna try to borrow one just in case. My suit jacket is def not a blazer.

I'm nervous but it's on Thursday - by then I'll be more excited than nervous! I hope so at least.

Thanks for the finger crossing - should be an interesting opportunity!

*update*
Thanks guys- I went with a button down shirt - baby blue cross stitch pattern, with a black cashmere sweater and gap khakhis (dark brown).. Looked quite fashionable and I did not feel over or under dressed. And I got the job! Well, they're calling me with an offer either today or tomorrow, but the CEO liked me, the guy I'm replacing got into a conversation about Troma with me, and my immediate boss said that he called my references and they only had positive things to say... Yay!

ALSO, I'm glad I didn't wear a suit. My possible boss said that the point of lunch was to see how I'd blend with their corporate culture. I come off as pretty .. Umm.. "Serious" to people who don't know me and I was able to be much more relaxed and jovial since I was dressed appropriately. We made minor jokes and bantered a bit, me dressing the way I was dressed made me feel very confident - thanks guys!

Congrats man!

I'm going this weekend to purchase my first suit. We're going up north to visit my family for the holidays, and I've been persuing moving out of this hell hole (aka, Memphis) so the grandbabies can be closer to them, plus have more opportunities going forward with my career. I've done a brief phone interview with one company and they want to meet me, and 3 phone interviews with another and they want to meet me as well. I guess there's nothing wrong with wearing the same suit to 2 seperate places is there? :p
