I just chunk them into the dumpster, or you could try to make some money off of someone on ebay, as it seems that is what everyone else it doing with thier dead hardware.

The city I live in has specific rules about discarding monitors and the like.We have to pay to dump them and we have to haul them there ourselves. You might want to call whoever's in charge of trash pickup in your area and enquir.

You can throw them in the trash just like anything else, but first you need to make sure you remove any harmful chemicals first. Take apart the monitor and rinse off the capacitors in the bathtub. Make sure you scrub them really good to get all the contaminants off.

Don't forget to plug the power cord in before you start scrubbing the inside of the monitor off:D

Seriously though, I would not take the cover off of it and try to scrub it in the tub, because some of the capacitors can stay charged for a very long time, and will let off a very nasty shock if you touch them.

Find you a pellet gun, if in town or a rifle or shotgun if you can take it outside of town and target shoot.

In my town you'd face a nasty fine if you got caught tossing one in a dumpster or putting it out for curbside pickup. They have special days where you have to take TVs and monitors to the municipal bldg for disposal.
