Dude, I wish you had one for Sony's like the PCG-GRZ series. I've opened and placed this unit in "parade dress" in the hope of upgrading its CPU to run at 133 fsb with no luck. Well maybe with your homepage I'll get me a Toshiba next time. Any recomendation, which one is better when it comes to upgrading the CPU?

Why do you want to upgrade the CPU? I would go first with memory (buy a laptop that supports 1GB and more, so you can expand it in the future); second I would upgrade HDD to 5400RPM or 7200RPM. I don't think that you'll see any improvement in performance just by upgrading CPU.

I already upgraded the hdd to 7200 RPM and also the ram to 1 GB. I've seen a tremendous increase in performance but I'm still stuck with a 100 FSB (albeit 400 per intel quadpump) asynchronous with 133 memory speed. The cpu on this laptop is a desktop or regular P4-2.0Ghz Northwood 400 FSB. I've triend installing a 2.66 Ghz (which has a 20 X 133 mhz FSB, since a 2.0 Ghz also has 20X multiplier) without success. The 2.66 ghz just ran at 2.0 Ghz. The highest CPU installed on this model is a 2.4 Ghz Northwood, 400 FSB.

Do you have a guide for the Toshiba Satellite A20/A25? Or is there a guide that's similar?

Thanks

I hope this information is useful for you.

Looks great man

I've got an old Satellite 2805-S301 (typing on it ATM). The dang screen works sometimes, sometimes doesn't. Been thinking it's a loose wire. Might give it go with your guides.

Nice work!

Not sure that even with a guide it's safe for most people, even enthusiasts, to be taking the mainboard out of their laptops. But if they want to, having a guide is better than nothing.

I still have to take my M35 back to CompUSA today so they can ship it back and fix whatever they didn't do right to make the CPU run at the proper speed.

Lord, it's quite simple. Why would you say that it isn't safe? Prior to working at this shop I'm working at I had no knowledge about fixing laptops or replacing motherboards, processors things like that. I learned from a co-worker and it's very simple. It's just that you have to remember where all the screws go and in order to take the motherboard out you're going to have to disassemble the entire laptop.

Biggest problem I have with disassembling laptops is that I get to this stage:
"There, it's back together. That was easy.....hmm, three extra screws. Dammit!"
So then, take it apart again, put the screws in, put it back together.....and ONE extra screw. Usually by the third assembly, I've just about got the guts full memorized.:)
WHAT manual? :D

That site looks pretty good. Good pics, and pretty nicely set up.

You can find it here: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/index.htm

While that might be nice and dandy, FYI every computer manufacturer's site I've been to, they've provided a detailed picture guide on how to dissasemble and do what ever on their computers.
