how to disable program that startup

how do you disable things that startup when your computer startup? i know that it is not in the program file/startup menu. there was something you write in the run command. any help. i am using win 2000.

Easiest is to use Startup Control Panel

Run MSCONFIG. Uncheck the items starting up in the startup tab.

Edit: Doh! Copy MSconfig from an XP machine it'll work

I don't think msconfig was in Win2k. Best bet is to download Startup Control panel.

when i open task manager is the system idle process suppose to use like 90% of my cpu?
