How to disable Messenger if ordinary methods fail?

I've disabled it in services, tried uninstalling it after *fixing* an .ini file to allow it, tried most conventional methods, but I still get spam using Messenger. Do you have any ideas?

Well, you can't disable Windows Messenger in Services, and you can't uninstall Messenger Service with an INI file...

So which are you talking about...Windows Messenger, or Messenger Service?

if you are gettting spam that sounds like messenger service

type this in the console to turn off messenger service:

net stop messenger

Sorry bud, that's incorrect. Windows Messenger is an IM client. Messenger Service is an NT net-send utility.

And you can be spammed on both.

right should have said messenger service. fixed.

i've always thought the IM client was msn messenger. usually i uninstall it first thing xp is installed so i never got a good look at it


anyway usually it's messenger service spam that i hear about though. the IM spam is pretty obvious to shut off.

For example, there's a service running in the background wich is called 'Automatic Updates'. I don't know what this service transfers from my machine to other machines on the internet, especially the MS ones. So I play it safe and disable such functions

That was good for a laugh! Anybody who does this needs to take the next exit off the information superhighway, or else keep from belly-aching when their machine is compromised.
