How to disable default save of scans in My Pictures

When scanning a picture, the computer automatically saves a file in My Pictures, and in a location the user wants. How do you disable that default save in My Pictures?

I'm not real familiar with the Registry Editor, so I'll need a little reassurance that it won't harm my computer.

My scanner does not do that. It gives me a choice of where I want to store it. Of course, if I do not choose, it will use "My Pictures" - just about the stupidest idea MS ever came up with.

What will it do if you delete that folder? 🙂

Yeah - the problem is, My Pictures is a sub-folder of My Documents - and that is the chief villain. According to this, it might be on the way out. I have always rejected use of "My" anything - it is so childish. I have always re-named "My Computer" to simply "System."
