how to disable cd autostarted in win2000

just setup my dualboot system, trying to setup my cdr with cdrwin in win2000, can't figure out how to disable the cd autostart function with my yamaha 4416, any help?
 
Edit the registry -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom change "autorun" to 0 (zero)
 
Go to device manager, double click CDROM, double click your CD-ROM drive, click the settings tab, uncheck auto-insert notification.

i'm new with win2000, don't know how to edit the registry, please show me!
doesn't this change the cdr only or both dvd and cdr?
 
Just go to Start -> Run -> type in "regedit" (without quotes). Be very careful when you are using this program. Making a wrong change can trash your system. Don't change anything that you don't have to! You'll see 5 folders (hives) on the left side of the editor screen. Navigate your way to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom by expanding these folders until you get to the right one. Once you have the Cdrom folder highlighted, you should see "autorun" listed in the right pane of the editor. Double-click "autorun" and change the value to 0 (zero). Exit regedit. You're done 🙂


BTW Brazen, as far as I know, that method only works in Win98 or ME. There is no Settings tab for my CD-ROM in Win2K's Device Manager.
 
yes, you're right it does affect all cdroms autostart function.
by the way, it there any to change the drive letters like in win98.
e:is cdr and f:is dvd to e😀vd and f:cdr in win2000.
 
Right-click on My Computer and select Manage. In the Computer Management windows that pops up, expand Storage and select Disk Management. Now in the right-hand pane, right-click on whichever drive you want to change and select 'Change Drive Letter and Path'. You should be able to figure it out from here. 🙂
